The Labor Party holds its internal conference amid pressure to postpone – 11/28/2025 – Committee

Next Thursday (4) the Labor Party will officially hold its internal conference, scheduled for April next year.

Despite this, a number of party leaders are calling for the meeting to be postponed until after the elections.

The alternative is to split the event, linking the discussion directly to the elections when they are scheduled and to more structural topics, such as reforming the statute and updating the political program for the coming decades, which will take place in 2027.

One of those openly opposed to holding the congress in 2026 is former president of the chamber João Paulo Cunha, for whom engaging in internal discussions in the middle of the campaign before the elections is a waste of time and energy. Completion is expected in 2027.

Secretly, managers and affiliates have the same opinion. Party president Edinho Silva wants to keep the date, arguing that this will help mobilize for the elections.
