At this point, it is difficult for us to reveal Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 to players, as it is one of the most acclaimed titles of 2025 that will compete for the GOTY award at The Game Awards on December 11th.
So far, Sandfall Interactive’s RPG has won 7 awards at the Golden Joystick Awards including the Best Game of the Year awardas well as one dedicated exclusively to its development studio.
Jennifer English and Ben Starr won for their roles as Maelle and Verse respectively, and Charlie Cox (Gustave) recently dedicated some words of praise to Maxence Cazorla.
But, What’s everyone’s favorite ending? Clair Obscur Expedition 33 includes multiple endings depending on the decisions players make, and the cast knows which one is best.

Both follow Maelle’s final decision and explain why in an exclusive interview with GamesRadar for the Golden Joystick Awards 2025.
Clair Obscur’s best ending is Maelle’s
At this end (Be careful, SPOILERS), Maelle confronts Verso so that the Faceless Boy can continue painting, and thus recover your past life in Lumière…or so she thinks.
Players fight as Maelle and if they manage to defeat Verso, they unlock the epilogue ”A life to paint”.
This ending shows Maelle living what appears to be an idyllic situationtogether with all your friends, including Gustave and Sophiealthough it’s just a lie within the screen.
Why do English and Starr stick with this ending? It is assumed that It’s the most depressing because of the change to black and white, the song Verso plays, and that heartbreaking shot of Maelle’s face, but Both think it’s the ending that best suits the character..
”This ending allows her to live her fantastic life. What Maelle experiences is a reality, but it is simply different” says Jennifer English, actress who plays Maelle.
In turn, Ben Starr thinks Maelle’s ending is the best, mainly due to English performancebut also for the following:
”Both endings are Alicia’s and both are completely valid, but I prefer Maelle’s ending”.
