The UEFA Oversight, Ethics and Disciplinary Committee punished Atletico Madrid with a fine of 40,000 euros due to the behavior of its fans at Arsenal Stadium in the Champions League, last October 21, and a conditional ban for one year on the sale of tickets to its next stadium. According to the European Football Association’s confirmation last July, the fine includes 30,000 euros due to racist or discriminatory behavior by its followers at the English team’s stadium, with a ban on selling tickets on the condition that the violation is not repeated during a one-year probationary period starting from the end of this July, and another 10,000 euros for each throwing of objects.

Last year, Atlético Madrid was fined by UEFA €30,000 for the Nazi murder of some Rojiblanco followers at La Luz Stadium in Lisbon, during a concert against Benfica. The penalty resulted in a ban on the sale of home tickets at one of the concerts, with the condition that this type of behavior is not repeated within a year. The club was also sanctioned by the Disciplinary Committee of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) for public incidents down the pitch at the ceremony against Real Madrid, resulting in three matches being closed in that area of the pitch. The Anti-Violence Committee additionally proposed full implementation of its stay within two weeks and significant economic fines of 105,000 euros.

Following these sanctions, in October 2024, Atlético Madrid decided not to sell tickets for five matches in the visiting area to any paid member of the animation section, in reference to the sector where the rojiblanco ultras are located in the background of the Metropolitano.

Other sanctions confirmed by UEFA affect Benfica and Qarabag. The Lisbon team will have to pay a fine of 10,000 euros, for breaking the sticks and causing damage to the Paris Saint-Germain stadium and the Women’s Champions League ceremony on the 19th of this month, and selling tickets at home to their fans over the years will also be prohibited. The Azerbaijani team Qarabag will have to pay a fine of 5,000 euros due to racist or discriminatory behavior by its fans at the UEFA Youth Champions League ceremony against Chelsea, which was held on the 5th of this month.
