One of the great mysteries of Stranger Things Season 4 was answered during the first wave of Season 5 episodes. The fate of Max (Sadie Sink) is one of the most poignant moments in the story and provided important answers for fans after waiting more than three years for new episodes.
In Season 4, the character became one of Vecna’s (Jamie Campbell Bower) targets and was used as bait in the group’s final ambush in an attempt to defeat the villain. But in this clash, Max was injured and suffered multiple fractures. She also lost her sight and died. However, she was saved by Eleven and ended the season in a coma in the hospital, in a weakened condition.

What happens to Max in Stranger Things 5
18 months have passed since the events of the series’ fourth season and Max remains the same. The character still in the hospital appears to have recovered from all the injuries on her body but is still in a coma.
Her boyfriend Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin) continues to make frequent visits to the hospital and plays Kate Bush’s song Running Up That Hill for her. The song was essential to her survival against Vecna and the group of friends seemed to think she could still help.

Max’s fate was only revealed in the third episode of season five, but it’s not exactly what fans expected. The character is trapped in a kind of alternate reality created in Vecna’s mind and manages to meet Holly Wheeler (Neil Fisher), the sister of Mike (Finn Wolfhard) and Nancy (Natalia Dyer).
The young girl was kidnapped by Vecna, disguised as Henry Creel, and also imprisoned in this alternate reality. The meeting between the two featured some revelations about what Max has been doing since the events of Season 4, such as her journey through Vecna’s mind.

There, she ends up discovering moments from his past in Hawkins’ laboratory or scenes in the corridors of the high school at the time when Joyce and Hopper were studying there, and she also almost manages to escape, as she sees the image of Lucas sitting next to her in the hospital bed and guided by the voice of Kate Bush with music, but the villain stops him.

In this conversation, Max also reveals a detail that should be important for the sequence of episodes, which is that Vecna is afraid of the cave in which she has made her own home and that she does not enter the place under any circumstances.
So, Max and Holly decide to organize a plan to escape from Vecna’s clutches. Selected tactics and scenes will only be shown in future episodes of the series.
The first four episodes of season five were released on November 26. Then three more chapters arrive on December 25th. The finale will be on December 31, when the final episode will be made available. All launches will take place at 10pm (Brasilia time).
