
The Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL) is preparing for its 39th edition, which will take place from November 29 to December 7, 2025. The most important editorial meeting in Latin America, it has established itself as one of the most influential cultural festivals in the world after its founding by the University of Guadalajara almost four decades ago.
Barcelona will be the guest of honor this year with the slogan “The flowers will come,” inspired by the story of Mercy Rodorida They will see the flowers. Its participation will include 69 compositions, performances, exhibitions, theatrical arts, cinema and gastronomy.
The Barcelona Pavilion will recreate a square with a library of 10,000 copies, will include a hall for various literary activities and will present a representation of the Sant Jordi Festival, a Catalan tradition celebrated on April 23 every year.
FIL Guadalajara 2025 schedules
The Guadalajara International Book Fair will be held at the Expo Guadalajara site. The public’s working hours during the exhibition days will be as follows:
- The exhibition will be open on November 29 and 30 and December 4, 5, 6 and 7 from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.
- Hours will be on December 1, 2, and 3 from 4:00 p.m. Until 9:00 pm
- The traditional night sale will be held on December 5 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
The official opening will take place on Saturday, November 29 at 11:00 am in the Juan Rulfo Hall, Expo Guadalajara. To attend the opening it is necessary to have an invitation.
Tickets and access benefits
General admission to FIL costs 30 pesos, with discounts for various sectors:
- 25 pesos for children from 3 to 12 years old, seniors with INAPAM credentials, persons with disabilities, students, teachers, and UDG Foundation members
- 20 pesos for University of Guadalajara students with valid credentials
- From the age of three, minors must pay a ticket
Admission provides access to book presentations, literary and cultural forums and the pavilion area depending on space availability. In addition, the general ticket includes admission to FIL Children, one of the busiest areas of the fair. FIL Forum concerts are free, although an admission ticket does not guarantee a place.

The full program – available online – includes more than 3,000 activities, 2,800 imprints from 60 countries and more than 800 writers from 34 countries, such as the great figures of contemporary literature:

- Samer Abu Hawash, from Lebanon
- Kev Lambert, from Quebec

- Leonardo Padura from Cuba
- Xue Mo from China
- Edmundo Paz Soldan, from Bolivia
- Maria Dueñas, from Spain
- Horacio Castellanos Moya, from El Salvador
- Cristina Rivera Garza, from Mexico
On the other hand, the FIL Prize for Literature in Romance Languages will be awarded to the writer Amin Maalouf. Mexican author Gonzalo Celorio will receive the bibliophile honor José Luis Martinez, while María Elena Saucedo Lugo will receive the librarian honor. Yolanda Zamora, one of the most listened to voices on Radio Jalisco, will receive the National Honor for Cultural Journalism Fernando Benitez.
More than 635 editorial presentations, tributes to figures such as Mario Vargas Llosa, and multiple certificates of appreciation in literature, science, journalism and cartoons are also expected.
FIL is a meeting point where writers, publishers, academics and visitors of all ages coexist. In 2024, it collected nearly one million participants, a number that could be surpassed in this edition.
