The fare of Buenos Aires Metropolitan buses plying in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA) will increase by 14.8% as of December 1 due to the extraordinary adjustment proposed by the provincial government. These are the lines that pass through the territory and do not enter the autonomous city of Buenos Aires.
The decision, taken by the Axel Kiselov administration through a decision published on Friday in the Official Gazette, introduces an additional 10% increase in the calculation of monthly inflation (2.4% according to the GBA Consumer Price Index) + 2 points.
This figure is calculated based on Greater Buenos Aires inflation, conducted by Indec, in the previous month in which the update was applied plus 2%. Taking into account that for the GBA region, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for October showed an increase of 2.4%, the increase due to this mechanism reaches 4.4% in December.
The tariff structure that comes into force aims to rebuild the income of concessionaires and address the high costs associated with operation, including the value of fuel and vehicle fleet maintenance. The additional 10% adjustment is intended to “reconfigure the system’s income, increase tariff collection in the service financing structure and reduce the need for contributions derived from the tariff compensation system,” it explains.
The scheme distinguishes Buenos Aires Lines from the rest of the transport services in the metropolitan area. In the metropolitan area, transportation divides its fare system according to the route of each line. Lines that operate only through the province use fares set by the government, while buses that travel only via CABA depend on the Buenos Aires administration and national services, which cross both provinces, have their fares set at the federal level.
What will the new bus fares look like?
For this reason, the amounts are somewhat higher than the cost of bus tickets in the greater La Plata areas. With the 14.9% increase, the following will be the price chart as of December 1:
- Section 0-3 km: $624.14 to $717.09
- Section 3-6 km: $681.35 to $782.83
- Section 6-12 km: $737.29 to $847.10
- Section 12-27 km: $789.59 to $907.18
- Section longer than 27 km: $833.18 to $957.27
But the effect is more pronounced in those cases where the bus ticket is paid without a registered SUBE card:
- Section 0-3 km: $992.38 to $1,140.17
- Section 3-6 km: $1,083.35 to $1,244.69
- Section 6-12 km: $1,172.29 to $1,346.88
- Section 12-27 km: $1,255.45 to $1,442.42
- Section longer than 27 km: $1,324.76 to $1,522.05
There is also a specific category for beneficiaries of Social traitintended for people in vulnerable situations, who reserve discounts on the ticket. For December, members suggest the following amounts: up to 3 km, $296.30; 3 to 6 kilometers, $330.08; 6 to 12 km, $355.50; From 12 to 27 kilometers, $380.96; and above 27 km, $406.23. These amounts represent a benefit aimed at reducing the weight of transportation in the budgets of the sectors most affected by the general rise in prices.
