A pipeline exploded in Anguerra and caused 7 km long queues towards São Paulo

An accident during construction work caused a water line to rupture on Friday afternoon (28/11), flooding the bypass of the Anhanguera Highway, at km 23, towards São Paulo. The leak created a queue of congestion about 7 kilometers long and forced drivers to turn onto the Bandeirantes Expressway.

According to the Autobahn agency, which runs the route, the break occurred around 5:30 p.m. The workers were using a backhoe when the machine collided with SABISP’s water pipeline. A large water leak quickly spread and flooded the bypass of Anhanguera.

SABIS stated that it cut off the supply to the area and sent a technical team to the site to carry out repairs and stop the leak. The company apologized in a statement for the inconvenience, and stated that it was working to solve the problem “as quickly as possible.”

With the floods and partial blockage of the road, traffic stopped between kilometers 17 and 24. Autobahn advised drivers heading from within the capital to use the Bandeirantes Highway as an alternative route.
