Cao Brunelli Dezzotti, 38, died in Lima, Peru, on Friday. Palmeiras fans were in the city to watch the Libertadores final between Palmeiras and Flamengo. The death was confirmed by the club itself.

“Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras deeply regrets the death of fan Caue Brunelli Dezotti, 38, who was in Lima, Peru, to follow the CONMEBOL Libertadores decision, scheduled for Saturday (29). According to local authorities, the Palmeiras fan was the victim of an accident while traveling on a tour bus. We express our solidarity with Caue’s family and friends in this moment of pain and sadness,” Palmeiras wrote in a note.

According to what the National Police reported on its website RPPA Palmeiras fan jumped unexpectedly as the tour bus passed under a bridge in Lima. Enrique Felipe Monroy, general of the Peruvian National Police, reported that the man from Palmeiras showed signs of intoxication when he crashed into the bridge. Once he was shocked, he lost consciousness.

He was rescued and taken to the Maison de Santé clinic, but arrived dead at the scene.

Caue Dezotti was a urologist who specialized in robotic surgery. It had offices in Limeira and Campinas, both cities within São Paulo.

Palmeiras will face Flamengo on Saturday in a Libertadores decision. Whoever wins will be the first four-time Copa Libertadores champion.
