Palmeiras and Flamengo have monopolized the national and continental competitions in recent years, winning four of the last six Copa Libertadores and will return to the field on Saturday, at 6pm, to decide the final of another edition, now deserving of an unprecedented fourth Brazilian championship, at the Estadio Monumental, in Lima, Peru. These titles gave the opportunity for star players such as Zico, and hitherto unknown names – such as goalkeeper Marcos – to become etched in the clubs’ history. Find out where the main names and nicknames of the two teams are.

The Red Black’s most recent title came in 2022, as striker Gabriel Barbosa, known as Gabigol, built a ‘destined’ aura by scoring the winning goal over Atletico-PR 1-0 at the end of the first half. He had scored both goals in the 2019 final, against River Plate-Argentina (2-1), and established himself alongside Zico as the only player to score goals in Copa Libertadores finals for Flamengo.
Currently, the former red and black player is wearing blue. After his contract with Flamengo was not renewed, Gabriel went to Minas Gerais to play for Cruzeiro. He arrived at the new club with high expectations, but was unable to establish himself as an undisputed starter. In 45 matches, he scored 13 goals and provided four assists. However, they still have a chance to maintain their finals-clinching magic if the Foxes reach the Copa do Brasil final in December. To do this, the team will first need to get past Corinthians in the tournament semi-finals, on days 10 and 14.
Deverson, from the title of Free Woman to the title of Citizen of Quiabano

Controversial striker Deverson wrote his name in the history of the continental competition with the final goal in the first confrontation between Flamengo and Palmeiras, in 2021, in Montevideo, Chile. After equalizing in normal time with goals from Rafael Vega and Gabigol, the No. 9 emerged as an unlikely name – the player had had ups and downs in the team and was no longer part of the board – to seal the title, taking advantage of a mistake by midfielder Andreas Pereira to score the title goal in extra time.
After the victory, the player played for three clubs, generating love and hate during his time. He left Palmeiras in 2022 for Cuiabá, where he became the club’s third top scorer (83 games with 33 goals) and one of the most important names in keeping the team in Serie A, with six goals in his first 16 games. He won two titles in the Mato Grosso Championship, in 2023 and 2024, as well as an off-field ‘title’: the native of Cuiabá. However, he left the team having a falling out with the president because he supposedly already had an agreement with another club at the end of his contract.
He then left for Minas Gerais, playing for Atlético MG from August 2024. But the spell was short and he left the club in March 2025, with 33 appearances and eight goals, leaving for Fortaleza. Where it is currently located.

Striker Breno Lopez had a meteoric rise after impressing in Serie B, where he played for Juventude (on loan from Atletico PR) and was quickly appointed and became an important part of Palmeiras’ attack in 2020, already in Serie A. In the same year, he quickly gained the satisfaction of the fans by scoring the title goal with a header, against his rival Santos, in the big decision that took place in the Maracanã.
But the change in level in the player’s career led to the demands of the fans after several seasons without proving himself as a main player. The player also felt frustrated by the low minutes, even when he scored decisive goals in winning the Brazilian League in 2023, and asked to be sold the following year. Currently at Fortaleza, alongside Deverson, the player has scored 14 goals and provided 10 assists in 86 matches.
“Saw” Marcos became a brewery owner and Evair owns a coffee brand
In 1999, goalkeeper Marcos did not have the title that was “beaten” in Alveverdes’ goals. Then the club’s third goalkeeper, he rose to the starting position and became a legend with the number 12 shirt. In the semi-finals of the tournament, he played wonderfully in the first match against his rival Corinthians, and executed one of the two penalty kicks in the second match, becoming the saint of Palmeiras and ending his career with 533 matches between 1992 and 2011.
After his retirement, the former goalkeeper launched his own brand of beer, in reference to the number that accompanied him throughout his career, “Cervegaria 12”. Furthermore, he increased his presence on social media, always following the club and communicating with fans, and even competitors.
The top scorer of the final, Evair, who tied the second leg on aggregate with Deportivo Cali 1-1 (the team won on penalties 4-3), in addition to being an important person in the Alviverde club, became a commentator for the GLOBO group and an entrepreneur for the coffee brand Café Evair 9.

Red and Black legend, Zico scored four goals in the final against Cobreloa Che. In the first match, he led the team to a 2-1 win. In the second leg, he saw the home team score 1-0. But in the playoff match, he shined again with two more goals.
In addition to being the club’s greatest player and receiving a ‘free pass’ at Gavea, the little man has also dedicated his life to Japanese football. National team coach, he also helped implement improvements in Japanese football. He is currently the head coach of Kashima Antlers-JAP. But he did not stop following his favorite team. He watched the semi-final match between Flamengo and Racing-ARG on his cell phone during the Japanese team’s training session.
