Choosing a vacation destination is still far from just a matter of a beautiful beach and a good price for many LGBTQIA+ families. When packing your bags, there’s something more important: the certainty that you’ll be able to move hand in hand, take family photos and enjoy your leisure time without embarrassment or risk.

A survey by Marriott International, conducted in seven countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, shows that the choice of destination depends, above all, on safety, cost, ease of movement, acceptance of the LGBTQIA+ community and of course good reviews on social networks.

“Hospitality is what defines a good trip. They value destinations where you can experience love and freedom naturally and respectfully. For families, this means tranquility and belonging,” explains Marco Lisboa, CEO and founder of 365 Fun Fest, a travel franchise network targeting the LGBTQIA+ audience.

Mexico

In Mexico, cities such as Mexico City, Puerto Vallarta and Cancun have established themselves as arrival points for LGBTQIA+ tourists from various countries. There, a mix of diverse nightlife, community-oriented events and “gay-friendly” accommodation helps make the experience more relaxed.

toronto (canada)

In North America, Toronto stands out as one of the best-rated destinations for diverse families. The country is internationally known for its inclusive policies, which is reflected in the way it receives tourists.

Barcelona (Spain)

In Europe, Barcelona is practically synonymous with “gay-friendly” tourism. The city combines extensive beaches, intense cultural life and spaces that have become a reference for the community, such as the Gaixample district, known as a meeting point for residents and tourists from the LGBTQIA+ community.

“It is a vibrant city, with culture, art and an environment that welcomes everyone, including families with children,” says Lisbon.

Amsterdam (Netherlands)

Amsterdam, in the Netherlands, has an iconic history when it comes to LGBTQIA+ rights: the country was a pioneer in legalizing same-sex marriage. Today, the destination offers museums, canals, outdoor tours and an atmosphere where displays of affection between same-sex couples are part of everyday life.

Sao Paulo (Brazil)

The capital of São Paulo combines entertainment, culture, gastronomy and services targeting the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as a diverse hotel network.

“Travelling in Brazil makes logistics, currency and language easier. For those who don’t know it yet, São Paulo can be an excellent choice for those who want comfort and good cuisine,” Marco recalls.

Buenos Aires (Argentina)

In Latin America, Buenos Aires is considered one of the cities most open to diversity. Argentina was a pioneer in the region by legalizing equal marriage in 2010, and since then, it has strengthened its image as a progressive and welcoming country.

The Argentine capital is famous for its diverse nightlife, extensive cultural spaces and emblematic events, such as the Marcha del Orgulo, which attract thousands of tourists every year.

Cape Town (South Africa)

The combination of beaches, abundant nature, African culture, and a reputation for safety and hospitality makes the city a desirable choice for LGBTQIA+ couples and families who want experiences outside the traditional travel hub.
