The weekend children’s program highlights attractions that appreciate São Paulo’s black culture. The city hosts the musical “Menino Mandela”, which tells about the childhood of the former South African president and Nobel Peace Prize winner. The black clown show “Buka Pio” was also highlighted.
Another highlight is Bailinho, produced by Banda Glória, in a performance dedicated to the compositions of Chico Buarque.

The sixth edition of the International Black Audiovisual Festival in Brazil

It is promoted by APAN (Association of Black Audiovisual Professionals), and features five short films. National productions include “Carrinho de Rolimä – Uma Aventura em Alta Velocidade”, “Valentina”, “A Menina que Queria Voar” and “Pedro Bom de Bola ea Chuteira de Led”. The program also features the American episode “Enkai – Kizazi Moto: Geração Fogo”. The short films cover themes such as imagination, creativity, friendship, adventure and the future. There will also be a conversation with director Theis Scapio, co-founder of audiovisual company Cavallo Marinho.

Children will be able to enjoy two stories during the event. The first takes place at noon with author Edna Alencar presenting the book “Manuela and Audi.” The work addresses the grieving process and feelings toward pets. At 12:30 p.m., Adriana Araldo, author of “Dora,” tells the story of a fisherman who wants to catch the love that his net has stolen. Finally, at 1 p.m., narrator Ivany Magalhães leads a conversation.

Long live the green

The story is inspired by the book of the same name by Simon Benzinski, and invites children to unite literature, music and environmental awareness through experience. Educators and musicians Arjen Evascu and Tatiana Furtado address nature, imagination, environmental care and magic through art with an interactive pocket show. Each child will receive a copy of the work at the end of the attraction.

The show combines humour, music and black clowning in a tale of new beginnings and discoveries. The story revolves around three black sheep who find themselves trapped in a post-apocalyptic barn. With nothing but a book in their hands, the trio discovers that they will only reach freedom if they cross symbolic walls.

The picturesque show is based on the book of the same name by Alexandre Coimbra Amaral. The narrative reveals the protagonist returning to his childhood in a dream. Inspired by the question, the character embarks on a journey that takes the audience through different audio and visual environments.

A lion in the room Classroom

On stage, the Gaucho’s theatrical troupe Gatiluba opens boxes that reveal memories—some lived, some invented; Happy memories, others not so much. From the reliquary emerged a runaway lion, an insect hero wearing glasses, the sad story of a fire truck and an embroidered apron, a monster living in a hole in the wall, old photos, childhood toys, friendships and bullying situations.

With a script by Ricardo Gomez and Mariana Gaspe, the show charts the path of Nelson Mandela, former president of South Africa and Nobel Peace Prize laureate. The lawyer was a prominent figure in defending human rights against the oppressive apartheid regime. The play takes a tour of Mandela’s childhood and shows, using poetry, indigenous songs, puppets and African dances, how dreams of freedom and justice can be born from simple gestures.

Banda Glória targets children in a show dedicated to the compositions of Chico Buarque. The repertoire combines “Saltimbancos”, “O Grande Circo Mistico” and “Arca de Noé”. The show also includes a selection of other great Brazilian songs, such as the famous “O Vira” by Secos e Molhados, “Menina Ajante de Manhão” by Tom Zee, and the famous “Não Vá se Perder por Aí” by Os Mutantes.
