Vitoria refuses to remain in the relegation zone in the Brazilian League. On Saturday (29), Leao beat Mirasol 2-0, in a record attendance in Paradão, El Salvador. Lucas Halter and Matthewsinho from a penalty kick confirmed the victory of the red and black team in the 36th round of the Italian League. The result placed Internacional in Z-4 moments after the announcement of the dismissal of coach Ramon Diaz.

Moreover, Vitoria reached five matches unbeaten, and the good moment for the team was accompanied by its largest crowd in this Series A with 30,793 spectators in Paradão, equivalent to the maximum capacity of the stadium. The club received permission from the Brazilian Confederation to sell visiting sector tickets to its fans on Saturday and broke the record for fans in attendance in this Series A.

On the other hand, Mirasol, who played his first match after the renewal of coach Rafael Guanaes until the end of next year, missed the opportunity to mathematically qualify for the group stage in the Libertadores. The yellow and green team has already qualified, at least, for the preliminary stages, but wants to confirm its direct place. With this result, Sao Paulo remains in fourth place with 63 points.

Another bad news for Mirasol was the departure of Reynaldo in the second half. He was substituted in severe pain and used an ice pack on his right foot on the bench. Therefore, the team’s top scorer will be a source of concern in next Tuesday’s match (2), against Vasco.

The game

Even away from home, Mirasol maintained possession of the ball by exchanging passes smoothly, while Vitoria relied on speed to surprise counterattacks. Sao Paulo dominated the midfield, but the red and black defense blocked the opponents well until Halter scored after a cross from Walter. With the advantage, Vitoria pulled back and Mirasol hit a shot from Alisson against the crossbar, but the home team took advantage on the break.

The Mirasol team increased its performance in the second half after some changes made by coach Renzo Lopez and began to control the match. The visitors created good opportunities, but they were unable to be effective offensively, and they were prevented by the good performance of goalkeeper Thiago Couto. Finally, Matteusinho scored a penalty kick that was awarded after a VAR review confirmed Leao’s win.
