The former Portuguese footballer for Real Madrid and current player for Al Nassr is proud of his love for video games and believes that esports are the future.
The video game industry is increasingly investing in games as a service (or GaaS) and Esports, or electronic sports, which has greatly expanded its revenues into areas that were never linked to our biggest hobby. AND Cristiano Ronaldo is the best possible example.
Everyone knows the Portuguese star, former Real Madrid, Manchester United and Sporting Lisbon player, who currently plays for Al Nassr, in Saudi Arabia. He has also been dedicated to other areas for some time, from Esports to streaming his YouTube channel.
CR7’s channel has an incredible 77 million subscribersafter breaking records with its opening in 2024. It’s a long way from its goal, which was to surpass MrBeast (it has 449 million, so it’s almost impossible), but there’s no doubt that the football player is tremendously popular on the platform.
But Cristiano not only has more and more weight in the world of streaming, but also in video games and the sports sector. Did you know he is another character from Fatal Fury: City of Wolves?
Not all fans of the SNK saga reacted enthusiastically, but it’s still an interesting aspect of the game. Additionally, CR7 also fueled the growth of UFL, Strikerz Inc.’s free-to-play football game.
In a new interview on his YouTube channel, Cristiano Ronaldo recognizes that He is a big fan of video gamesand intends to dedicate himself to them in the future.
CR7 has 8 consoles for you in your ”games room”
At one point during the interview, iconic presenter Piers Morgan He asks Cristiano about his room full of consolesand also for an Esports prize which is in your specific trophy room.
CR7 smiles and does not hesitate to recognize that Esports and the world of gaming are one of his passions, which he intends to dedicate himself to fully when he retires from football.
”It’s the future. I’m an ambassador for the big eSports event they hold every year here in Saudi Arabia.”, says the Portuguese footballer.
In fact, Cristiano is Sports World Cup Ambassadorthe biggest esports event in the world, whose 2025 edition took place last summer. Of course, the Esports Olympics were cancelled.
”They gave me the opportunity to be the ambassador for the Esports World Cup which, if you’ve never seen it, you should come see it next time”.
It would be strange to see CR7 play Clair Obscur Expedition 33 or The Last of Us Part II, but the Portuguese star certainly maintained his good habits to League of Legends, Fortnite, Call of Dutyand of course for the saga FIFA (now EA FC).
What did you think of Cristiano Ronaldo’s inclusion in Fatal Fury: City of Wolves? Are you in favor of the Portuguese player and other figures outside of video games appearing in these types of games? Whether we like it or not, this is the future this industry is heading towards.
