Reader Comments on Rising Military Tensions in the Caribbean – 11/29/2025 – Readers Panel

Military tension

“Trump and Maduro spoke by phone amid military tension in the Caribbean, according to the newspaper” (Mundo, 11/28). Trump and Maduro, speaking on the phone amid military tension in the Caribbean, seem more like heroes in a tragic comedy than responsible leaders. When such controversial figures present themselves as mediators, the danger is that peace becomes a spectacle and conflict an improvised script. The world needs serious commitments to human dignity and international stability.

“Trump says Venezuela’s airspace will be completely closed” (Al-Alam 29/11). When Russia did this to Ukraine, the world turned against the Russians. Will they do the same with the United States?

Forcaro
“Justice orders the release of banker Daniele Forcaro” (Monica Bergamo, 11/28). What a fool I am, who even fears getting a traffic ticket, because I know my appeals will be denied. As for the financial fraudster, the proverb “He who has friends shall not die a pagan” applies.

If it had been a poor, hungry man who had stolen food from the supermarket, he would have been beaten by security guards and arrested.

Urban landscape
“Construction company begins cutting trees in Butanta after obtaining permission from the city council” (Qutidiano, 11/27). When I first read the news about the 384 trees being cut down, I was very angry when I learned that 128 of them were original. Why aren’t these trees planted where they are needed? I looked up how long it takes a tree to grow to this size and found it. She’s 40 years old! “Nature can no longer defend itself. Take revenge!” (Jasser J. Venturi). We are witnessing modern environmental disasters.

Amnesty International
“Tom in the Streets” (Roy Castro, 11/29). Artificial intelligence relies on natural intelligence, which makes fewer mistakes.
