Rafael Vega wants to consider Palmeiras’ defeat to Flamengo in the Libertadores final as a “learning” for the future. Speaking to the press after the match, the midfielder positively analyzed Verdão’s suggestion of marking during the match, but expressed his regret at the outcome of the defeat.

“I think in some moments we could have played more. We knew that Flamengo could have had more possession. And with our display, I thought we performed well and scored well,” said the Palestinian star.

In his analysis of the defeat, Vega denied that the players were nervous about the decision, which contradicts what Abel Ferreira said after the match. The coach responded in a press conference that the players lacked “the courage to control the ball under pressure” at times.

“It’s hard to say. It’s very difficult to talk about first-time passes, just because you make a first-time pass doesn’t mean you’re nervous. I made a first-time pass against LDU and the goal came. You can’t say that. People on the field see one thing.”

Flamengo wins its fourth Libertadores championship by defeating Palmeiras in Lima:

Even with the moment of disappointment after the defeat, Vega doesn’t see his spell at Allianz Parque ending anytime soon. His current contract runs until the end of 2027.

He added, “I love Palmeiras. I am upset about what happened today. I wanted to win more than anyone else and bring the joy they deserve to Sao Paulo. There is still a lot to happen and it can be a learning experience.”

Vega and his teammates will return to the field next Wednesday, the third, against Atletico MG, at the Arena MRF, in the Brazilian League.
