In Saturday’s only Brazilian league match, Cruzeiro’s title chances ended at the Castelao Stadium. Away from home, Raposa faltered and ended up drawing 1-1 with Ceara, and is mathematically out of competition with Flamengo and Palmeiras.
Caio Jorge, Cruzeiro’s top scorer in the Brazilian league, did not travel with the team to Fortaleza and was left out of Saturday’s match – with Gabigol leading the Celestial attack. After the match, coach Leonardo Jardim explained the reason for the striker’s absence.
“Caio had physical problems and cramps, and the medical team also had the idea not to take risks and cause an injury. As I said before, we want everyone to be available,” Jardim said regarding Cruzeiro’s final part of the season.
During the match, Cruzeiro also suffered another loss due to injury. Striker Kenny Arroyo was replaced in the first half of the match by Sinisterra and caused concern among the Cruzeiro fans. Leo Jardim gave a brief opinion on the player’s injury.
“Arroyo, we think it was a cramp of the adductor muscle of the thigh. We didn’t want to risk it and the player, because we have other solutions on the bench and we have important matches and the whole team must be available.”
