Flamengo’s party for the Libertadores will be in downtown Rio on Sunday. The American champions will parade in an electric triple over the 850 metres. The red and black players should disembark at Tom Jobim Airport, Galeão, in Ilha do Governador, at 9:30 a.m. and will head to Rua Primeiro de Marco. The journey will end on President Antonio Carlos Avenue. But be careful: closures in the surrounding area begin at 5 a.m.

It is expected that 500,000 Flamengo fans will attend the celebration. There will be 21 fan screening points, using metal detectors, installed on access roads, in a similar scheme implemented on New Year’s Eve in Copacabana. Beverages in glass bottles will not be permitted within the viewing area.

The electric trio’s starting point will be Rua Primeiro de Março, on Rua Buenos Aires. The truck that will lead players along Rua Primeiro de Março continues to the perimeter of Rua Araújo Porto Alegre.

Three sound towers will be installed on the stretch between Avenida Nilo Peçanha and Avenida Almirante Barroso, the point where the electric trio will stop to greet fans, before the show concludes.

In addition to road closures, event organizers will have four medical stations and 250 chemical toilets available to the public, distributed at three points along the route. Parking in the area will be prohibited from 8pm on Saturday.

To travel between the Center, the North Zone and the South Zone, in both directions, the City Council’s recommendation is to use the routes through the Lapa Zone (Teixeira de Freitas, Avenida Mem de Sa, Avenida Repubblica do Paraguay, Rua do Riachuelo) or the Santa Bárbara, Rebucas and Marcelo Alencar tunnels. Nearby roads such as Rua Senador Dantas, Rua México, Avenida Graça Aranha, Avenida Calógeras, Avenida Rio Branco, Avenida Marechal Câmara, Avenida Franklin Roosevelt and Avenida Presidente Wilson will be open to vehicular traffic.

The recommendation of the Secretariat of Municipal Transport (SMTR) is that the public give preference to the metro to reach the fan concert. Bus routes passing through the area may be diverted. The pick-up and drop-off locations for buses terminating at the Menezes Cortes bus station will also be changed.
