At least four people were killed and ten others were injured, last Saturday, after a shooting in the city of Stockton in the northern US state of California, in which minors were allegedly injured.
The shots reportedly occurred around 6:00 p.m. Saturday during a family gathering — Stockton Deputy Mayor Jason Lee confirmed the children’s birthday was celebrated — inside a fast food establishment.
Public Information Officer Heather Brent told the Los Angeles Times that a preliminary investigation indicates the incident was a targeted attack.
Police forces have not yet identified the perpetrator, and San Joaquin County District Attorney John Freitas asked “anyone who has information about this person” to send it to the authorities “immediately,” in statements reported by CBS News.
For their part, eyewitnesses described the possible perpetrator of the shooting as a person who appeared alone at the scene, standing 1.68 meters tall and wearing black pants, according to police reports. An area resident told ABC10 he heard several gunshots.
“It’s Thanksgiving weekend. It’s when families come together and celebrate and share memories and love each other. And unfortunately, tonight, the sky is a little bigger with the people and the children and the adults who, unfortunately, did not make it,” Stockton Mayor Christina Fugazi told the media.
As the Public Prosecutor did, the counselor asked citizens to cooperate to arrest the author. He concluded by saying: “We have work to do, and this kind of violence, this kind of violence, I repeat, is happening again. Our city is better than this.”
California Governor Gavin Newson’s office is also coordinating the investigation with other federal and local agencies.
