Monday (1the), World AIDS Day is celebrated. This date was set in 1988 by the World Health Organization. AIDS was considered an epidemic in the 1980s, and is now treated as a chronic disease that can be controlled with antiretroviral drugs. Currently, the majority of people infected with HIV do not develop AIDS.
