The Goonies turns 40

If you are a tender creature born in the seventies or eighties, have gray hair, but enjoyed a film like The Gooniesreleased in 1985 and a cult classic par excellence in which Steven Spielberg only got involved as a producer because he was already very involved with his film Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

That’s why the project fell into the hands of Richard Donner, another brilliant director who knew how to bring shine to his young cast full of faces that, to this day, are very present on screen.

If the film exudes freshness it is, among other things, because those children had a lot of room to improvise. We talk about Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, Jonathan Ke Quan, Jeff Cohen, Josh Brolin and Martha Plimpton.

References to other films are distributed in the form of Easter eggs throughout the filming: the appearance of R2D2 as a reference to the universe Star Warsveiled allusions to The Gremlins or even a t-shirt with the logo superman.

You will be able to enjoy the adventures of The Goonies on the big screen from December 19th, and in the meantime, check out the 2010 documentary Making of a Cult Classic: The Unauthorized Story of the Gooniesdirected by Ron Fugelseth, which features interviews with the cast and director, as well as a review of the reasons why it became such a memorable film for an entire generation.

Of course, we are also very aware of the possible consequences: The Goonies 2 and Gremlins 3announced by Warner in recent months, although still in its infancy. The Goonies never give up!
