At approximately 12:30 pm on Sunday (30), Abel Braga disembarked at Salgado Filho Airport, in Porto Alegre, to resume command of Internacional on an emergency mission. Since his arrival, the coach has made it clear that his stay will be short, and will be limited to the last two matches of the season, and he made clear that he will not start 2026 at the helm of the club – or any other team.

Appel revealed that he received phone calls from director Andres D’Alessandro and President Alessandro Barcelos on Saturday. After a few minutes of thought, he decided to accept the invitation and return. Upon his arrival, he met fans, took photos and explained to them why he accepted the challenge. According to him, the internal mobilization and leaders’ call were louder. He explained that he is convinced of Inter’s ability to avoid relegation, and stressed that its performance begins with an immediate meeting with the technical committee.

“I came to Inter. It never occurred to me to come back, but I received encouragement and requests and it affected me. When the president called me, I asked for a few minutes. I quickly decided. If I thought it was not possible to stay in the first division, I would not come. I think I will not fall. Now I will have a meeting with the technical committee and I will get my information.”

The club’s appeal brought Abelao out of retirement

The coach also confirmed that his decision is specific. Since leaving work in 2022, he stated that he has stayed away due to fatigue from traveling, and confirmed that he does not intend to play for any team in January. However, he maintained that the club’s appeal motivated him. He said he felt he made the right decision and asked the fans to believe in him, in the same way he believes in staying in the Italian League.

The task is complex. After a 5-1 defeat to Vasco on Friday, a result that led to the departure of Ramon Diaz from the committee, Inter entered the relegation zone thanks to Vitoria’s 2-0 win over Mirasol. With two rounds remaining, Colorado ranks 17th with 41 points.

The team faces Sao Paulo on Wednesday (3), in Vila Belmiro, and concludes the tournament on Sunday, against Bragantino, in Beira Rio. With little time to make adjustments, Abel Braga is trying to lead Inter to the final response to escape the fall.
