Ellen Ripley’s actress expresses her fascination with the two attempts to bring the saga to life Foreigner a fifth installment of the character, and a project is still under discussion.
the saga Foreignersuch as the franchise Predatorhave returned to the forefront in recent years thanks to films as Alien: Romulus or series like Alien: Planet Earththat move away from the vision of Ridley Scott in Prometheus and Alien: Alliance.
It is easy to forget that, more than a decade ago, a Alien V tried to bring it back Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley. First it was Neill Blomkamp who tried to lead the project but was blocked by Ridley Scott who was focused on the prequels.
Later it became known that the producers of Alien, the eighth passenger, Walter Hill and David Gilerthey were writing a script that would also ignore events from Foreign³.
Sigourney Weaver talked about her first attempt at French Cinemathequeafter a projection of Alien, the eighth passenger which gave way to a master class for the actress.
Sigourney Weaver knows this”Ripley is still around“
The Alien star clearly points to Ridley Scott’s interference as the reason Alien V didn’t go ahead with Neill Blomkamp:
“I’m a big fan of Neill. His movie was shocking and I worked with him on another one called Chappie. He comes up with the idea to bring Ripley and Newt back. It was a wonderful script and, unfortunately, I think it was at this point that Ridley Scott decided to be too possessive of the saga and focus too much on its prequels. So I think it was a disaster for this project.“.
Sigourney Weaver also talks about her treatment of Walter Hill’s 50-plus page script, though it’s unclear whether it will ever materialize into a film:
“Walter Hill wrote about 50 pages. Although I never really wanted to go back to the series, there’s something about (Ripley’s) experience now being relegated, probably by this society, by this company, by this world, and being about 200 years old. But still Ripley and, you know, these problems still exist.
So I’ll see what happens with Walter’s script. It wouldn’t be like what we saw tonight. Wouldn’t be passing through vents, but a very different story“.
For now, the future of the Alien saga lies in the wake of Alien: Romulus and in Alien: Planet Earthalthough FX has yet to officially renew the series for a second season.
