Suburbs, the center and the sea of people: the red and black fans turn Rio into a carnival after the Libertadores title

Flamengo fans “dominate” the train heading towards the celebration of the Libertadores title:
For those who think that the Libertadores concert, scheduled for Sunday the 30th of this month, started at the corner of Primero de Marco Street and Buenos Aires Street, you are greatly mistaken. The celebration began earlier, in the suburbs, with a train ride to downtown Rio de Janeiro.
It’s hard to believe the train resisted the red and black excitement. Between jumping and slapping on the bodywork, no one could remain silent. It was up to 22-year-old fan Caio da Costa, who was sitting and sleeping for most of the flight. Fans asked him to “fight back” and offered him a cold beer as a deal. Kayo stood up, and it was a party worthy of a title celebration.
Between songs, there were teases of the competitors. As he passed the Botafogo stadium, obscenities echoed loudly. Vasco and Fluminense were also the target of “excitement”, in the famous Series C ticket of Tricolor Carioca and the intense competition with the Cruze Maltino team.

The Red and Black Sea has taken over the streets of Rio de Janeiro. Everyone was waiting for the electric trio to pass with the Flamengo players and the Libertadores Cup.
The party was scheduled for 10 a.m., but the trio did not leave the corner of Rua Primero de Marco and Buenos Aires Avenue until 1 p.m. The delay did not deter fans who waited at marquees, trees and traffic lights.
When the trio passed, the singing was deafening. Between one bewilderment and another, Leo Pereira took on the role of official cheerleader, promising to come down from the trio to break up any fight.
Fans threw their shirts to get autographs, and cried out of emotion. One of them even broke into the electric trio to hug the players, but they were restrained by security and forced to come down.
Security caught the attention of those present. Rafael Barbosa (38 years old) indicated that the police and search operations were greater than in the events of 2019 and 2022. He commented, “In previous years there was no inspection, there was no police as there is now.”
Frustration and confusion characterize the red and black party
Ruan Carlos, 30, was one of the fans enjoying the celebration. According to him, the concert was lively, but the trio’s path was narrow and they did not cope well with the sea of reds and blacks.
Beside him, a commotion suddenly broke out. “This sea of people pushing each other, and the fighting started out of nowhere,” Ruan Carlos said.
Two other fans, who preferred to remain anonymous, arrived late. They only left the Lake District to participate in the party, thinking that it would continue until later, but when they arrived, the crowd had already dispersed.
The same thing happened with Giovanni, 42 years old, who came from São João de Mirite, to Baixada Fluminense. He was unable to watch the match, so he went to downtown Rio to celebrate with the fans. He arrived at three in the afternoon, but the party was already over.
“I came excitedly, thinking I would stay until 5pm. I arrived full of energy, ready to scream, but it’s already over. It’s a frustrating feeling,” the fan commented.
The red and black party should continue all week. On the third Wednesday of next month, Flamengo will face Ceara at the Maracanã and could win the Brazilian Championship, depending on the win alone.
