Marie Carmen Vásquez Vilanova, 53 years old, was murdered on the night of July 2, 2023, Sunday, in her home on Batanes Street, in the Alcalá de Henares neighborhood of Venice. It was Alejandro, his confessed killer, a 25-year-old … For years she had been in a romantic relationship with her, and she called the police after midnight: “I killed a friend. “I strangled her.”
The victim and the attacker met five years ago while working together at the Nubium restaurant in the historic center of Alcalá. She has been a cook for two decades. Alejandro – Alex, as he is known – moved there later, but barely lasted a year. During that time, she offered him help when he needed it: Due to his history of alcohol and drug abuse, he came to live temporarily at her house. “He was a scoundrel. On at least two occasions he reached inside the penalty area. One time he stole 60 euros and another 200. In addition, he was always partying, drinking a lot and doing cocaine. “Mary received him into her home like a mother, because his family had kicked him out of his home,” those who knew him explained to this newspaper, in the year the events took place.
That Sunday, between 10:30 p.m. At 11:00 p.m., during a heated argument, the accused allegedly hit her on the side and head, causing a fractured rib with a pneumothorax. As a result, he stabbed her with a 34 cm kitchen knife in the back in the cervical area, which resulted in a large wound that did not affect her vital organs. After this attack, the accused had used the Matalion method, a strangulation technique known as “Matalion” (choking the victim from behind with his arm, until she loses consciousness or life, as in this case), causing the woman’s “almost instantaneous” death, without her being able to defend herself.
Neighbors heard Alejandro’s screams and blows towards Marie Carmen. When police went to the house, they found the woman dead in the living room of the house. For this reason, the Public Prosecutor’s Office is demanding 20 years’ imprisonment for premeditated murder, along with five years’ supervised release after serving the sentence, and compensation of 145,000 euros for the victim’s son, who is investigating the case, for moral damages. The trial before a popular jury begins today in the Regional Court of Madrid.
