Ranyeli scored one of the goals in the match against Botafogo.
Corinthians had a busy afternoon at the Neo Química Arena. In an exciting match full of chances and confusion in the end, Timão and Botafogo played out a 2-2 draw on Sunday (30) in the Brazilian League.
The home team started to press and opened the scoring after just six minutes. Newton lost the ball on the edge of the penalty area, and Diginio recovered and sent Ranelli, who only shot it into the empty goal. Timao followed better and almost went wide with Mateusinho, but Leo Link made the save. On the rebound, Yuri Alberto missed and Chuka shot, but Rio’s defense blocked it. The first stage still witnessed an altercation between Marlon Freitas and Hugo Souza, but the referee quickly took control of it.
After the end of the first half, Botafogo controlled the match. In the 14th minute, Montoro passed the ball to Quiabano on the left side, who advanced freely and sent a bomb to tie the two teams. Shortly afterwards came the turning point: after a corner kick, the defense got away poorly and Montoro started a play that ended with a brilliant shot from Parreira inside the area.
Even in unfavorable circumstances, Corinth responded. Vitinho made a ridiculous move down the left, cleared two passes and passed the ball to defender Gustavo Henrique, who finished off the goal. The ball deflected down the middle and found the net to tie the game.
In the last minutes, the temperature rose. The players of the two teams exchanged blows and the referee was forced to distribute the cards. Givinho, who sat on the bench, was sent off, while Maicon received a yellow card.
Despite the draw, Corinthians managed to move up three places in the table. A win would put the team in eighth place, but the added point keeps alive the dream of fighting for a place in the Copa Libertadores, whether in the Brazilian League or the Brazilian Cup, where they face Cruzeiro in the semi-finals.
Now, the focus turns to the clash against Fortaleza, away from home, on Wednesday, at 7pm. Team Ciara plays under pressure, trying to escape from Z-4, while Timao continues to aim for the summit.
