The Regional Electoral Tribunal of São Paulo (TRE-SP) has revoked the mandate of a Republican mayor in the interior of São Paulo, convicted of a vote-buying scheme that used an evangelical church as bait to attract voters.
The resolution for the second time, published in Diário da Justiça Eleitoral on Tuesday (25), condemned the mayor of Narandeba (SP), Danilo Carvalho, for illegally seizing the right to vote (votes) in the 2024 elections. The mandate of the deputy mayor Professor Joana (MDB), who died in August, was also cancelled.
The ruling stated that two voters filed a police report stating that on election day they passed by an electoral complex where they were approached by a priest who offered them water and informed them that the evangelical church next to the school (Brazil Cristiano) was open for them to drink water and use the bathroom.
At the church water fountain, the brother of the mayoral candidate approached them and offered them R$400 each to vote for the Republican candidate, the amount they would be paid if he won. The process includes proof of receipt of two “PIX”.

Also included was the sum of R$800, to buy two votes from two brothers, and a police report recorded by a voter who, after a visit to his home by Danilo Carvalho, received an unwanted delivery of building materials – Danilo owns a shop of this type. The accusations were proven by audio, photos, police reports, and testimonies.
The election in Narandeba, in the northwest of the state, near the border with Paraná, was decided by a narrow margin of votes. The candidate supported by Governor Tarcisio de Freitas (Republicans) received 2,029 votes, compared to 1,871 votes for Luiz Carlos Constructor of the PSOE.
In his vote, the rapporteur of the case, Judge Claudio Langrova, concluded that “the analysis of the oral evidence, together with the receipts of bank transactions and extracts arising from the violation of banking secrecy of the parties represented, is sufficient to prove the flow of financial resources allocated to the purchase of votes.”
Danilo Carvalho took a stand in a note on social media: “We received with great respect the decision of the TRE SP this afternoon, and because we disagree with it on fundamental and sensitive points, we will take the case for evaluation by the Supreme Court, the TSE of Brasilia, which will give the final word on this issue. We will continue to do our best for all the people of Narandepa who have entrusted us with the honorable task of ruling them! Our gratitude and we continue to fight for Narandepa and for the good of our entire people.”
