Neymar’s company suspends its contract with a pharmaceutical company targeted by police forces

NR Sports, the company that manages Neymar Jr.’s career, has suspended its partnership contract with Unikka Pharma, after the company was the target of a Federal Police (PF) operation against a network dedicated to the illegal production, retail and sale of Mounjaro, an injectable drug for the treatment of diabetes and obesity, last Thursday (27/11).

NR Sports said in a statement that the contract was suspended by mutual agreement, allowing Unikka to present its version and defense regarding the accusations.

The statement issued by Neymar’s family company concluded: “After the investigation and completion of the investigations, we will analyze the final solution to the contract.”

On social media, Unikka Pharma stated that it was the target of injustice and denied being part of an illegal scheme to sell and manipulate the Monjaro product.

The company stressed on its website that it is a legal pharmacy with more than 300 employees. Moreover, he said that he operates with all licenses from the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) and the Coordination of Health Surveillance of the São Paulo Municipal Health Secretariat (Covisa) and sells medicines only with prescriptions.

The pharmaceutical company attributed the federal police investigation to the fact that “a foreign multinational company was not able to compete.” Later, in a second statement, Unica stated that doctor Gabriel Almeida, who was also investigated in the police operation, had no institutional connection to the company and was only occasionally hired, through an educational company, to give lectures and scientific events.

The investigation revealed that the group maintained a manufacturing structure in conditions inconsistent with health standards, and carried out irregular packaging, labeling and distribution of the product. Evidence of mass production on an industrial scale has been found, a practice not permitted by law.

The investigation also revealed the sale of items through digital platforms, “without minimum quality controls, sterility or traceability, which increases health risks to the consumer,” according to PF. Furthermore, digital marketing strategies induced the public to believe that routine production of tirzepatide, the drug’s active ingredient, would be permissible.

The institution stated that “the measures taken aim to stop the illegal activity, identify those responsible for the production and distribution chain, and collect documents, equipment and inputs that assist in laboratory analysis and technical expertise of the seized materials.”

Last week’s operation was supported by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) and the health surveillance of the states of São Paulo, Bahia and Pernambuco.
