Forensics determined that he used a children’s plastic table and chair to reach the bathroom window, the only room in the property that did not have a protective screen.

Unlike the other windows, this one also had no opening limiter, a mechanism that restricted the opening to a maximum of 10 cm. Without the device, there was enough room for the boy to pass through.

What the mother told the police

The mother, Emily Linhares, told military police she woke up around 6:30 a.m. and left her sleeping son to go to the building’s gym.

Husband was at work. She stated that during this period, the boy got up and went to the bathroom and ended up falling out of the window.

Later, at a press conference, the family’s attorney said Emily was not in the gym, but in the building’s shared laundry room, an environment scheduled via the app and within the same tower.

According to him, the boy could have been alone for “about 10 minutes.”

However, in the police report there is a record that she left before 7am. One witness claimed to have seen the fall around 7:25 a.m. while walking on the sidewalk in front of the building.

The scene where the police found it

Upon entering the apartment, the police noticed, directly under the bathroom window, a children’s high chair and a plastic table leaning against the wall.

Forensics is working on the hypothesis that the boy used it as a support to look out. The fall was about 35 metres.

Residents reported that they heard screaming outside immediately after the body was found.

Emily was taken to the police station after receiving medical care, but her arrest was not confirmed. Civil police reported that so far there is no evidence of abandonment of a helpless person.

According to the responsible delegate, for this crime to be constituted, there must be a clear intention or clear foreseeability of the immediate risk, circumstances that, in the preliminary analysis, do not apply to the case.

The investigation continues with new interviews, internal photo analysis, and expert reports.

Matthew was buried in Ituyutapa, 136 kilometers from Uberlandia, between Friday (28) and Saturday (29). Burial took place in São José Cemetery.
