The new Dragon Quest crushes Pokémon and becomes the number 1 selling game in Japan, imitating what Dragon Quest III HD-2D has already achieved in 2024.
With Pokémon ZA Legends we thought nothing could match its success in Japan, but we underestimated the potential of Dragon Quest as one of the most popular sagas in its native country. And now Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake has demonstrated that it is capable of anything.
Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake has already turned things upside down in 2024 (despite being surpassed by Super Mario Party Jamboree in the end), and now the remasters of the first two games have been marked as new hits in their first week.
Proof of this is that Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake surpassed 400,000 games sold in its debut week in Japan, placing itself at undisputed number 1.
This is reflected in data collected by Famitsu (revealed to the West on Gematsu), which also indicates console sales during the past week.
The Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch practically took over the top of hardware sales, leaving the PS5 well below if we compare these numbers with those of previous weeks.
We now review the most notable data from the week of October 27th to November 2nd, 2025 in Japan.
