He was number 1 on YouTube, but decided to leave video games behind in his new life: ”now I have a different mentality”

If you grew up with the first YouTube videos, you probably know PewDiePiea Swedish content creator who, while Rubius, Auronplay and WillyRex emerged in Spain, dominated networks around the world.

Since creating his channel in 2010, the Swede has been gaining ground to become an internet legend, to the point of, for example, making Minecraft the most popular game of 2019.

PewDiePie, whose real name is Felix Kjellbergtried to adapt to the new times on Twitch (even losing the channel), talking about current topics such as the rise and fall of NFTs. But everything changed in the summer of 2023.

With the birth of his son Björn, something clicked in PewDiePie’s head and he decided to turn his back on his old life as a YouTuber. And that led him to stop playing video games forever.

How does an Internet legend stop being one? Very simple: adopting a new life. Now, Felix Kjellberg has explained the reason for his controversial decision:

Since I became a father, everything is evaluated differently. Every hour now has a weight that it didn’t have before. If he really wanted to, he would have plenty of time to play video games. I simply decided that if time is limited, I’d rather do something else.”, says the YouTuber on his blog Kjellberg Mail.

PewDiePie is still on YouTube, but nothing is the same anymore

PewDiePie’s YouTube channel is still active, with 110 million subscribersbut the tone of his videos is radically opposite to before. Now he uses the platform as an exhibition of his daily life.

From your child’s birthday, to family vacations, to a video talking about ChatGPT, Felix Kjellberg chose a different approachcloser to an influencer.

Because I’m so engrossed in YouTube and video games, I haven’t done much to develop and grow. Right now I have a different mindset and I want to learn”.

He still spends little moments relaxing playing games (e.g. titles like Poppy Playtime), but a far cry from the gaming marathons of yesteryear.

I don’t have infinite time. I simply chose to dedicate it to what I believe is most valuable, and seeing how people react like this confirms that thought.”.

the time is limited (especially if you are a father and have a family), so PewDiePie decided to focus on what is most important in his life, leaving his old routine behind forever. And it’s totally respectable.

Do you understand PewDiePie’s thinking? Who knows, perhaps the same will soon happen with Ibai Llanos, TheGrefg, Rubius and other streaming legends, unlike what happened with IlloJuan in recent years.
