It seems like a lie, but next time December 10, 2025 will be fulfilled 5 years since the release of Cyberpunk 2077. Today it is considered a masterpiece of Western RPG, but the situation was very different five years ago.
In December 2020, Cyberpunk was heavily criticized for its poor condition on PS4 and Xbox One, to the point where it was one of the most hated titles, with millions of people asking for refunds.
Things have changed a lot since then, as Cyberpunk 2077 is now CD Projekt’s main source of incomeaccumulating more than 35 million copies sold between PlayStation, Xbox, Switch 2 and PC.
More than enough reason for the futuristic RPG to have a sequel, which expects to have almost 500 developers by 2027, as well as an expansion (Phantom Liberty), several board games and even an anime series (Edgerunners).
Cyberpunk 2077’s fifth anniversary is approaching and CD Projekt is going to celebrate it in style… although, for now, we don’t know how.
The only thing we saw is a mysterious script posted on Twitter/X, with mentions of the game itself, Solomon Reed and Songbird.
Cyberpunk anticipates news for its 5th anniversary
As the fifth anniversary month begins, CD Projekt RED posted a cryptic official tweet that sent fans wild. And furthermore, the anniversary is celebrated just 24 hours before The Game Awards 2025.
The itinerary is, in fact, a calendar for the month of December, in which three dates stand out: 12/10, 12/12 and 12/29.
He December 10th is dedicated to Cyberpunk 2077 itself, as it is the date of 5th anniversary of original release on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
Regarding the other two dates, each one is linked to a character. He December 12th mentions Solomon Reedwhile the December 29 do the same with songbird. Both are characters introduced in the Phantom Liberty DLC.
What can we expect? Virtuos and CD Projekt are still working on minor updates for the game (the last one was version 2.3), and It is not ruled out that news will come to Dogtownthe expansion district.
Maybe it could be a new update with new weapons, vehicles and events, or even a second DLC (that’s less likely), but for now no one knows.
If we take into account that Cyberpunk 2 will take a few years to arrive (talk about 2028 at the earliestsince The Witcher 4 won’t be released in 2026), it stands to reason that CD Projekt would still want to squeeze out the first game’s universe.
