Find out all about the Christmas tree in Botafogo

Botafogo Cove just got more beautiful. This postcard Rio Christmas tree will be lit until January 6th. The structure is 80 meters high, equivalent to about 30 floors, and contains 2.3 million LED lights. LED lights make the tree shine and create magical effects with a combination of colors and designs. In addition to the traditional shades of green and red typical of Christmas, the tree depicts Rio and its natural beauty, such as the sun and sea. Every half hour, the audience can watch the water ballet, a number that combines lights, special effects and the movement of sea water. The tree will be lit daily from 7pm until midnight.

It’s a heavy tree, no doubt: in total, the structure weighs as much as 1,800 popular cars. It was assembled at the Niteroi shipyard and transported to the Gulf via Guanabara Bay. More than 650,000 people are expected to visit the attraction until January 6, when the structure will be dismantled. At the opening ceremony, on November 30, according to the organizers, 60,000 attended.

Anyone wishing to see the new tourist area up close can access the waterfront through illuminated and safe underground passages. The tree can be seen all over Botafogo Bay, and on Botafogo Beach itself, which is 700 meters long. For the perfect grating shot, you can frame the tree with Sugarloaf Mountain in the background. Guaranteed success.

Shows don’t just take place on the water. Every weekend, the public will be able to watch performances on the stage installed in Praia de Botafogo. Audiences can now mark their calendars for the Bay to host shows on weekends until it’s broken up. Next week, Nego Álvaro, Tapetes Contadores de Histórias and Nova Orquestra will all perform.

How to get to Botafogo Bay

The public will be able to access Botafogo Cove through two access points. Crossing will be carried out exclusively through pedestrian crossings that lead directly to underground tunnels, ensuring a greater degree of safety.

  • Tunnel 1 – At the beginning of Rua São Clemente Street, near the subway exit.
  • Tunnel 2 – At the height of the Argentine Building in Praia de Botafogo near No. 228.

The stage will be installed between these two entrances, in the center of Enseada. The Food Village will operate on the following weekends, and will be concentrated in the Tunnel 1 area.

The visual beauty of Botafogo Beach is not new to anyone, but for many years it has been a gem that few locals visit. A recent improvement in bathing standards has improved the area, which now welcomes bathers.

Another tree in the southern region

Next Saturday, the city will see another giant tree. After being absent for five years, the tree in Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas has returned, standing 60 meters high and containing 20 kilometers of LED hoses. It is sure to attract Santa Claus’ attention from above.
