The head of the Federal Police Supervision of the Federal District sent a letter to the Fire Department asking for “speed” in the medical care of former President Jair Bolsonaro, if necessary. Bolsonaro has been detained in a special cell held by the oversight body since November 22.
“We are formalizing the request for quick assistance to the Regent, Mr. Jair Messias Bolsonaro, whenever there is a need,” the text sent on November 27 read.
The National Front says in the request that the reason is the health condition of the former president, who suffers from bouts of hiccups and vomiting. This condition is the result of a knife attack he suffered during the 2018 election campaign.
The letter added: “The request was submitted due to his health condition. We inform you that the detained person is being held under federal police surveillance.”
The request is addressed to the 15th Military Fire Group, which is located 700 meters from the observation building.
Three of his sons reported the “delicate” health condition to the president who visited him in the superintendent’s office last week. The former president had to be assisted by National Front agents last Thursday. “The reflux episodes that happened yesterday are still going on all day today,” wrote Balerio Camboriu (SC) consultant Jair Renan, on the social network X, about the episode.
In turn, Rio de Janeiro State Counselor Carlos Bolsonaro said, “Doctors were summoned due to continued hiccups and reflux.” After visiting his father, Carlos said he was “psychologically devastated” and “ate little.”
Bolsonaro is serving a 27-year-and-three-month prison sentence for attempted coup, armed criminal organization, attempted violent abolition of the democratic rule of law, qualifying damages for violence and serious threat, and deterioration of listed property.
The former president was arrested on the 22nd after he violated the electronic ankle monitoring device under the pretext of a flight risk. On the 25th, Federal Supreme Court Minister Alexandre de Moraes declared the criminal action against the coup plot final and ordered the former president to begin serving his sentence in a National Front cell.
