The true spirit of Christmas is sharing. The most tender time of the year holds a precious reminder of the power of giving, faith and love. Inspired by these values, Casa do Candango Foundation, a non-profit charitable foundation led by Margarida Khalil, launched last Friday (28/11), the first edition of the Christmas Bazaar.

Casa do Candango: Margarida Khalil celebrates the honorees at afternoon tea
Founded in June 1961, Casa do Candango provides assistance to children and the elderly, offering social services, cultural activities and educational activities. Amidst the entity’s successful projects, the Christmas initiative, which took place at the entity’s headquarters, in L2 Sul, seeks to expand the support provided to the vulnerable community in the Federal District.
Casa do Candango holds its first Christmas Bazaar
The Christmas Bazaar was launched for the first time thanks to the initiative of businesswoman Norma Merheb Defeo, a friend of Margarida. As a ceramic designer, she saw her work as an opportunity to make a tangible contribution to the organization.
Carla Lobo, Cristina Merhab Gonzaga, Anemilia Fontenelle de Mendonça, Giselle Borges, Lillian Borges, Elizabeth Vanzan, Norma Merhab DeFeo, Margarida Calil, Leticia Pereira, and Beatriz Azevedo.
“I did receive some invitations to join the board, but it never worked out,” Norma said. “When the opportunity arose to help with the bazaar, I gathered my friends and we decided to showcase our work for this good cause.”
The idea came spontaneously and quickly. In just 15 days, Norma and Margarida launched the project, mobilizing their friends and organizing all the details. In total, seven exhibitors formed the “good team” at Casa do Candango and donated their time, talent and creativity to increase the resources available for sale at the bazaar.

Among the items on sale, guests were able to purchase pieces that add magic to the end-of-year celebrations, such as decorative tea towels, personalized napkin holders, patchworks, handcrafted candles, hand-painted ceramics and other unmissable gifts.
“This partnership was wonderful. In addition to the affection that accompanied the tribute to Casa do Candango, they came to add a lot of work. Little by little, we built a huge and very important work,” celebrated Margarida Khalil.
Love and donate
The atmosphere of the bazaar reflected the essence of the institution: welcome, friendliness and solidarity. Norma summed up the feeling in one word: gratitude. “My heart is full of love. We will do everything we can to help, especially children and the elderly. I think this kind of project enhances the Christmas spirit even more,” Norma emphasizes.

For Margarida, her friends’ engagement is living proof of trust and credibility. “These testimonials show the transparency and reliability they put into our work. This gives us the strength to keep going. Seeing these dedicated friends expanding our reach and bringing beautiful things to the Bazaar only reinforces how valuable this union is.”
With a portion of the proceeds going to the foundation, the amount raised will be allocated to the most pressing needs – renovations, educational materials for children, materials for seniors and maintenance of services.
“It is a set of possibilities. The important thing is to do good,” Margarida summed up.
