Tainara Souza, 31, was run over and dragged along Marginal Tete, in the northern region of São Paulo. She was in the area of ​​Avenida Teniente Amaro Felissimo da Silveira, in Villa Maria, when she was hit by the car last Saturday morning (29). Tainara was rescued and taken to the Viridor José Storopoli Municipal Hospital, also in the northern region. She lost her legs and remained in serious condition as of Monday evening.

Why did the collision happen?

The cause of Tainara’s run over is still under investigation. Her family refers to a man with a previous woman. Pictures circulating on social media show the woman lying down, trapped under the car, which was still moving along the road. Taynara was dragged for approximately one kilometre.

What do witnesses say?

Eyewitnesses reported that the collision was intentional and motivated by jealousy. A bar employee told G1 that he saw Douglas speed the car toward the victim. She said in her testimony that after the driver hit her, he pulled the handbrake to increase the pressure and friction of the vehicle on her body. People at the scene tried to prevent Tainara from being towed, but the driver fled at high speed.

What happened to the car driver?

Douglas Alves da Silva, 26, was identified as the driver of the car. He was arrested last Sunday night (30) at a hotel in Villa Prudente in the Eastern Province. According to TV Globo, the suspect got into an argument with Tainara after he saw her with another man at the bar. He then allegedly got into the car and ran over his ex-wife.

At the time of the arrest, Douglas resisted approach and attacked a customer, requiring police intervention. He was injured, received medical treatment and was released from the hospital.

When he was restrained, Douglas denied knowing the victim. As he left the civil police station in São Paulo, when security officers took him away on Monday, he kept his head covered and said he was sorry “since the first hour.”
