“A call for dignity and transparency in Argentine football”

To the true football fan… It is incredible that at this point in the history of Argentine football, we still have to put up with a management that seems more typical of an impromptu small table than the leaders at the height of the country’s most popular sport. But here we are: watching as the leadership of the Argentine Football Association changes the rules at the last minute, manipulates standards according to the occasion, and treats clubs and fans far from the required institutional seriousness.

Claudio “Checi” Tapia and Pablo Tovigino, the protagonists of this scenario, have in their hands a structure that must be governed with professionalism, transparency and respect. However, what many of us see – and say – are attitudes that generate doubt, arbitrariness, and self-confidence that are, frankly, embarrassing. What a paradox: in a country with so much top-class football talent, we at the helm sometimes seem to settle for fourth-tier teams. It’s not just a matter of shapes. It’s a basic question.

Argentine football does not need arrogance, improvisation or a leadership style that seems to believe everything can be decided behind closed doors without explanations. What football urgently needs is credibility. This credibility is lost when those who should be role models act in a non-transparent, disrespectful and unprofessional manner.

This type of leadership is not at the level of Argentine football. While many look the other way, fan trust and the legitimacy of competitions continue to erode. This appeal is not intended to please. It is intended to be useful. It is a call – ironic but sincere – “for the good of Argentine football”, because we should not accept that the Argentine Football Association is headed by people who do not show the institutional class that the institution deserves.

Tapia Gate…no matter how famous it is, it’s just another garbage all over the world. We already had the FIFA portal: a lot of noise, some fines and… silence. The structure created by FIFA appears to be an impenetrable tangle. FIFA relies on contributions from regional associations (CONMEBOL in South America) and more than 100 affiliated associations around the world. Among them is the Asian Football Confederation, which feeds from hundreds of clubs across the country. But who is the main contributor at the beginning?: His Majesty the fan, who begins to discover that matches, relegations and championships are decided manually, according to the very variable mood of Tapia and Tovigino (AFA). Fans go to the stadium almost religiously to support their colours, not knowing that nothing is as it seems. Everything is written. The solution (difficult but possible): Do not go to the courts. If they don’t go, tickets won’t be sold and no money will reach the AFC, CONMEBOL and FIFA. There may be other solutions, which should be evaluated. It’s not about being sad or not sad. It’s about fair play. But this, like this, goes no further.

President Javier Miley celebrated the hotel’s historic record of occupancy. On his X account, he reposted a tweet from Javier Lanari: “The long weekend of 11/20 is the most successful in its history.” In Mar del Plata, there was a 38% increase compared to 2024, 50% more than in 2022 and 25% higher than in 2021.

When an official talks about tourism, he must provide a complete report, not just a partial report. The new presidential spokesman forgets to mention a relevant aspect: during 2025, the number of Argentines who traveled abroad increased by 64%, compared to 2024. Among the important details is the decrease in the number of foreign tourists visiting us by 17% on an annual basis, the reason, according to them, is that we are an expensive country in dollars.

In short: “When they tell you reality in their own way, it ends up being half the truth.”

The appointment of a military man (Lieutenant General Carlos Presti) as Minister of Defense gives me some reassurance that the security of the region will be in the hands of someone trained in his region and with experience coming from below. This is how all high public offices should be.

After all, one wants a qualified teacher to teach our children to read and write, not a fighter, friend or lover of “to whom and for whom,” as recent populist governments have done with the results of overcrowded borders and no entry of citizens or tourists like parrots through their homes.

I have been going to my beloved city of Costanera Sur since I was young and have seen how much progress has been made in its care and improvement. Although there are two public baths from Belgrano to Av. Cordoba, with staff to take care of them. It’s a shame it was completely unusable for several years and absolutely nothing was done about it.

Since many people come to enjoy the outdoors on weekends, it saddens me that, for example, the elderly and children do not have access to it because the only possibility there is in the ecological reserve, which is far from these places.

I hope they can solve this problem because the structures are there and people need them.
