Sunscreen is the kind of product that never — or at least shouldn’t — leave your toiletry bag. For daily use, regardless of whether the weather is rainy, cloudy or sunny, in addition to protecting the skin from the effects of the sun, the product also reduces the effects of premature aging.

Does sunscreen capsule really work? Experts explain
But what seems easy: applying sunscreen to the face and spreading it is not that simple. Dermatologist Vanessa Peruso comments that there are common mistakes that go unnoticed and can interfere with the effectiveness of sun protection.
“It’s not enough to apply it, you need to apply it the right way!”, says Helioderm dermatologist partner. In addition to daily facial care, Vanessa also offers tips for ensuring full body protection during the holidays, when many people enjoy beaches, pools and waterfalls.

“There are people who still think that sunscreen does not work. Who among us has not burned the instep of their feet or the back of their ears? These are the areas that many people forget to protect and then the blame goes to the product! Every area exposed to the sun needs to get protection,” he emphasizes.
Check out the five most common mistakes when protecting yourself from the sun below:
Apply a small amount
“On the face, the ideal solution is to use the equivalent of three full fingers of product or a coffee spoon. On the body, it is recommended to use two full hands or about three tablespoons to cover everything properly,” advises Vanessa.

Do not reapply throughout the day
It is necessary to apply sunscreen at the beginning of the day, even before leaving the house for sunny free time. However, this is not enough when we talk about constant exposure to sunlight.
“The ideal is to reapply the product every three hours to maintain full protection, as well as always enhancing it after excessive sweating or entering the pool or sea,” advises the dermatologist. To make the process easier, Vanessa recommends aerosol versions.
Forget the “little corners”
“It is very common to forget the back of the neck, ears, neck, scalp, feet and hands, but they are all just as important as the face,” highlights Vanessa.
The doctor also comments that clothing does not always guarantee complete protection. “Under bikinis, swimwear, and even long clothing, UVA and UVB rays can pass through the fabric and ultimately burn those areas left without product,” he warns.
Apply only in hot weather or when the sun is intense
This is one of the most classic mistakes, according to the dermatologist. He stresses: “Even when the sky is cloudy, radiation is still present. Therefore, the ideal solution is to use sunscreen every day.”
Mix condoms with creams
When considering practicality, many people mix protectant with creams and even liquid foundation, but practice can conflict with protection. “Mixing products changes texture and can reduce the effectiveness of protection,” the dermatologist explains.
“When we mix foundation with sunscreen, we weaken the filter performance,” he adds. “For those who want more practicality, the ideal solution is to choose multifunctional options, such as facial sunscreens with color and hydration, which have already been developed to maintain adequate protection, treat the skin and tone it.”
