Alceu Valença celebrates eight decades of life in 2026, connected to countless volts of clean, renewable and solar energy. To celebrate this remarkable achievement, the “80 Gerasoa” tour will visit ten Brazilian capitals, starting in March, in a show specially designed for large arenas and concert halls. This is Alcio at the peak of his form, with all his impressive power on and off stage, for eighty years circling the star king.
Tour dates have already been confirmed in the following cities: Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, El Salvador, Curitiba, Brasilia, Fortaleza, Belem and Belo Horizonte, with shows spread between March-April and May-June. In Rio de Janeiro, the Farmasi Square in Barra da Tijuca opens its doors on Saturday, March 14 to host this festive celebration. In addition to the performances, the project includes complementary programming for some capitals with a visual arts exhibition and cinematic performances, which enhances the artistic and cultural dimension of this honor, in addition to musical performances.
The singer rides the index of the future, and soars on his own artistic path, from the seventies to the present day. Valencia’s musical odyssey begins with the song “Papagaio do Futuro”, which was championed by Alcio, Geraldo Azevedo and Jackson do Bandiero at the 1972 International Song Festival, and which Jackson called the “Mbolada of the Year Alvin”. There began a long story of friendship and musical partnership. Following on from the start of his career, Espelho Cristalino, with its distinctive toada and baião lines, is a pioneer in championing the environmental cause. Through the light that ignites his works, it is up to the poet of Pernambuco to warn that “this street, without sky or horizons, was a river with crystal clear water.”
Creating calluses on his feet while walking, he travels the backcountry roads of “Cabelo no Comb” and “Cavalo de Pau,” between the streets of the past and waves of pure ether spreading across the cornfield. Since the days of Fazenda Riachao, which belonged to his father, in São Bento do Ona, in the Pernambuco countryside, the boy Alcio has had the same source in the festivals, fairs and vaquejadas of the deep Northeast that Luiz Gonzaga absorbed to curate the genres that gave rise to the foro. Incidentally, Seu Luiz gave an accurate definition of Alceu’s sound in the 1980s: “It’s an electric band.” The legacy of the King of Bayao is present in the re-creation of “Pagoda Rosso” and “Sapia,” this song with a slight Portuguese accent, proving that Portuguese fado tones and northeastern rhythms always scream for each other.
Through the sunny streets, roads and lanes, the singer takes us to Recife, the subject of “Pelas rua que Andei” and “Belle de Jour”, classics from his repertoire. Only Alcaeus can descend from the Muse French New Wave On the beach of Boa Viagem on a blue Sunday afternoon – and today the song is more famous than the film that inspired it. Rumor has it that even the girl from Ipanema is a little jealous of the charming Belle de Jour.
From the Recife Carnival to the Olinda Carnival, the frevo, maracato and chiranda spread their overwhelming vibrations. For more than a decade, Alcio has led the “Bicho Maluco Beleza” group through the streets of São Paulo, and now also in Recife, with around a million revelers joining each edition of the event. Part of this atmosphere can be seen on the “80 Girassóis” tour, with a unit dedicated to the Alceo Carnival, because the energy of Olinda is unique!
Throughout his career, Alcio has been known for cultivating the sounds of Brazil and the Northeast in a contemporary urban language, with an irresistible appeal to audiences. Thanks to his amazing ability to renew his audience, songs such as “Anunciação”, “Tropicana”, “Belle de Jour”, “Como Dois Animais”, “Coração Bobo”, through time, being recycled with each generation, the artist reaches 80 years of age which confirms his creative power and his status as one of the greatest ambassadors of Brazilian music.
Alive like the sun that so often inspires his work, Alcio crosses time with the same light that has ignited its path since the first festivals, renewing audiences, celebrating roots, and illuminating Brazilian music with the power of someone who, at 80 years old, is still in full orbit.
With work illuminated by the Northeast and inexhaustible energy, Alceu offers audiences a tour that unites past, present and future through music. Benefit from a 50% discount on up to two tickets, exclusively for Clube O GLOBO subscribers, and be part of this celebration story!
