Chancellor Janina Paschwal (PP-SP) spoke on Tuesday (2/12) about the confusion involving the Bolsonaro family and the support of former governor Ciro Gomez (PSDB-CE) in Ceará. She classified the confusion as ridiculous and defended the conservatives’ support for the candidacy of Senator Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE), who positioned himself as the prior opponent of Ciro Gómez.
“Senator Jirao’s nomination to the Ceará government is very important, since he is one of the greatest pro-lifers in the country. It would make sense for all those who call themselves pro-lifers to support his candidacy! The dynamic of the ‘president’s order’, in addition to being ridiculous, is responsible for the current situation. It is not about obedience or disobedience. It is about cohesion!”, Janina wrote on social media. Through her position, she sides with Michel Bolsonaro (PL) and distances herself from her stepchildren.
The conflict began last Sunday (11/30), after former First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro made the following statement: “It is about this alliance that you (PL) rushed to make. (…) An alliance with the man (Ciro) who stands against the biggest leader of the right, this is not possible. (…) We want calm, we want unity, and we see that people do not raise the white flag. People keep saying that the family is a thief, it is a criminal. Compare President Bolsonaro with a chicken thief, then, there is no way, “That doesn’t exist anymore.”
Then it was the turn of the children of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) to enter the story with speeches against their stepmother’s position. “You ran over President Bolsonaro himself, who allowed the movement of Rep. Andre Fernández in Ceará. The way you addressed him, perhaps the greatest local leader we have, was authoritarian and embarrassing,” said Senator Flavio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ). In addition to Flavio, the former president’s children also criticized Michele.
Given the fallout, Michelle issued a note stating that she respects her stepchildren’s opinion, but will remain true to her values. Senator Flavio Bolsonaro also backed down, stating that he had apologized to Michele and that the family had resolved the issue internally.
