Miguel Uribe Londoño, former presidential candidate and now former member of the Democratic Center Party, has made the decision to resign from the community founded by former president Álvaro Uribe Velez. The political leader explained, through a message circulated on social media, the reasons that prompted him to take this step, stressing his commitment to the principles he considered fundamental, and clarifying that he was not willing to negotiate his values or give up aspects he considered vital to his way of practicing politics.

Uribe Londoño’s resignation from the Democratic Center was marked by a series of internal tensions and disagreements. Despite being one of the founders of the group – according to his speech – his relationship with some key members of the political party deteriorated due to a series of factors, including lack of interest and lack of clear support at crucial moments.

His intervention on social networks and his final decision came after the party announced that it would continue the electoral process only with the pre-candidates María Fernanda Cabal, Paloma Valencia and Paula Holguín. This decision is due to the possibility of Uribe Londoño joining the campaign of Abelardo de la Esprilla, who reportedly contacted former President Alvaro Uribe to inform him of his former leader’s intention to support the lawyer.

However, Miguel Uribe Londoño rejected such statements and noted the following: “Will my call to unite in one movement and under one leadership be credible if I am not willing to give up my candidacy? Leadership, as I taught my son, is exercised by example. I am accused of abandoning my candidacy; “I wouldn’t have done that.”

In fact, Londoño asked himself: “What am I being charged with?” He explained that although he had already met with the lawyer and former candidate Abelardo de la Espriilla, he had not done anything different than he had done since his son’s death. He stressed that he seeks to meet with other candidates, leaders, journalists, businessmen, and various personalities, without seeing that this is inappropriate. He stressed that his goal was simply to search for a path to unity to confront what he considered “this disaster,” in reference to the government of Gustavo Petro.

The former candidate reported that although he topped several internal party polls, he did not receive any official advice about his position in the electoral race: “They did not ask me if it was true. Neither the party director nor any authority asked me if it was true. They did not respond to my calls, they did not listen to my arguments, and my sacred and legitimate right to defense was not respected.”

Oribe Londono’s departure was not an isolated event. According to the party, his decision came due to several disagreements with former President Uribe Velez, who initially supported his candidacy. The party confirmed that the candidate sent a letter to the former president informing him that he would make a “very dangerous decision” with his family and that he would not be able to participate in the forum on Sunday, November 30.

He also requested an urgent meeting the following Monday, but this appointment never materialized, as Oribe Vélez had no space in his agenda and only responded to him by letter.

Despite communication difficulties, Uribe Londoño explained that his goal has always been to serve Colombia and continue the legacy of his son Miguel Uribe Torbay: “My only goal is to serve Colombia and honor the legacy of my beloved and martyred son.”.

The leader expressed his annoyance at the lack of support and respect for his son’s legacy within the party: “A party that had a martyr who fought for his faith, and some of its leaders do not know how to glorify his legacy or respect his memory, does not allow me morally to continue fighting in its ranks.” He revealed with categorical determination his irrevocable resignation from the ranks of the democratic center: “I am forced to resign from the struggle once and for all, and this is my very personal resignation.”

The former candidate now took the opportunity to directly criticize the way the Democratic Center handled recent internal decisions: “What is talked about little is the process in which the rules of the game were changed several times in just three months.”

Accordingly, Uribe Londoño pointed to the amendments and decisions made by the party, which, in his opinion, were not transparent or audible to the militants or the Colombians.

In his extensive message, Uribe Londoño did not fail to acknowledge the support he received from former President Álvaro Uribe Vélez in the first moments of his political career, but he made it clear that the decisions of some party members do not reflect the true spirit of society.

“To you, President Álvaro Uribe Velez, I have to say something. Thank you for the invitation you extended to me and my family to be part of this process. I hope that we will meet soon on the path to building national unity.”The political leader said.
