Today, Tuesday, many handball players denounced on social media the racist insults that occurred last Friday after Spain’s defeat by the Faroe Islands. In responses to a post of encouragement for the team that federation president Francisco Blasquez posted that night in “Everything is full of black women, you damned traitor”; “You fill the team with blacks and you still lose. It will take you to the guillotine” are just three examples of what some users wrote after the bad result in the national team’s second match in the World Cup being held these days in Germany and the Netherlands.
The defeat against the Faroe Islands, which, not because it is difficult, should prevent us from aiming to reach the main round in the best conditions.
On Sunday, against Montenegro, we will face another tough match with important points at stake. rejoice #WarriorsIt’s time to rise up! pic.twitter.com/FrAv1LVSFc

This Tuesday, after the defeat to Serbia, Daniela Sue Delgado, Carmen Arroyo, Kaba Gassama, and the sisters Lindy and Lisa Chaptchit posted on Instagram a screenshot containing some of those insults, with the phrase above it: “Whether we lose or win, this is unacceptable.” The picture was the same in all five cases. All of these players are descendants of immigrants. So Delgado’s parents are from Guinea-Bissau, Arroyo is of Colombian descent, Gassama’s parents come from Senegal, and the Chaptchet sisters were born in Yaounde, the capital of Cameroon, before landing in Navarra.

A day ago, in an interview with this newspaper, Sue Delgado, the team’s top scorer (29 goals in the tournament, 11 of them on Tuesday), confirmed that she knew “nothing about that” when asked about these attacks on the networks. On Tuesday afternoon, the player reported it to her other teammates.
He did so shortly after Spain lost to Serbia (29-31) at the start of the second stage of the tournament, a defeat that significantly reduced the chances of Ambros Martin’s side of reaching the quarter-finals. This Thursday they will face Iceland (8:30pm, Teledeporte) and on Saturday (6:00pm) they will conclude this round against Germany. If she does not finish in the top two, she will be disqualified.
