Taynara Sousa Santos had her legs amputated after being dragged for more than a kilometer on Saturday morning (29/11). She remains in hospital and is not in danger of death.
The man was arrested at a hotel in the eastern region of Sao Paulo after fleeing the scene of the crime. According to the police report, Douglas attempted to grab a gun from a police officer as he approached, and ended up being shot in his left arm. He was reportedly taken to the Vila Alpina Municipal Hospital, where he received emergency medical care before being transferred to the police station.
But Douglas’s defense points out that “the defendant did not receive any care, which left the wound open, exposing himself to a concrete and imminent risk of infection, especially given the unsanitary environment in which he is being held.”
The lawyers also claim that the man “has not yet been treated, nor has he received a single painkiller pill, despite presenting at the hearing with a gunshot wound, and even bleeding on the floor of the hearing room, a fact attested to by all.”
On Monday (12/1), Judge Guilherme Eduardo Martins Kellner requested that these allegations be investigated by the Internal Affairs of the Civil Police.
Required by CapitalsThe civilian police stated that the approach to the perpetrator of the attempted murder of women met all the necessary requirements and was carried out “within legal parameters.”
“He was charged with resistance and disobedience and was transferred to the police station for judicial police procedures after receiving medical care. After undergoing a pretrial detention hearing, he remained detained by court decision.”
Drag the woman
Security cameras captured the moment Taynara was run over and dragged by her ex-husband, Douglas Silva. It can be seen in the pictures that she was walking with another boy when she was hit by a black car.
Taynara remains hospitalized in the intensive care unit (ICU). According to the victim’s family’s lawyers, she is not in danger of death.
to Capitals A childhood friend of the victim, Leticia Dias, explained that she had already undergone surgery to remove her legs and that she would have to be transferred to another hospital, where skin grafts would be performed in the areas most affected by the drag on the asphalt.

According to her friend, Taynara lost one of her legs when she was dragged by the car. He lamented, “The doctor tried to restore the torn off foot, but he did not succeed. Unfortunately, he had to remove his legs.” She explained that the amputations were performed at different times on the victim’s legs.
Furthermore, Leticia stated that her friend had brain swelling, but the CT scan showed no seriousness in the edema.
Mechanical malfunction
During questioning, the man also stated that he was “completely sorry” and that he did not know Taynara Sousa Santos.
Douglas said he had been at a bar since Friday night (28/11) and was involved in a fight to defend his friend Kawan after a row with Tainara’s partner.
In the confusion, Douglas was allegedly hit in the face with a bottle and threatened to be killed. He said he left the scene with his friend, and already in the car, he saw Tainara with the other boy. The man then allegedly performed a maneuver and was leaving when he “ended up hitting her with the car.”
Douglas said he suspected the alleged mechanical problem when he noticed that “the car was not moving forward” after the crash, but he denied noticing the victim was under the car. He said that people started gesticulating, but he quickly left the place towards Marginal Titi. On the street, other drivers were honking their horns and warning that there was a woman under the car. According to the man, he stopped at a gas station a few meters in front of him, and then Tainara freed himself from the car, but fled for fear of being attacked.
The police deny the version
- But Douglas’s testimony contradicts information collected by police.
- According to investigations, the criminal knew Tainara and had an intermittent relationship with him. He acted out of jealousy and not accepting the end of the relationship.
- Cowan tried to discourage Douglas and insisted that the man stop the car while the woman was dragged along the road.
- Police Chief Augusto Besigo also stated that Douglas did not stop the car and that Taenara only escaped because the body became separated.
- Tayanara’s sister stated that Douglas had been pursuing her for some time and they never had a serious relationship.
Douglas then told his family what had happened and spoke to a lawyer, who advised him to leave the car away from the scene to be handed over to the authorities later. The man took the car to his ex-father-in-law’s house without giving any reason.
So, Douglas booked a room in a remote hotel, where he was arrested the day after the crime. During his arrest, the man attacked a police officer and ended up shooting himself in the arm.
