Readers disagree about Lula’s nomination to the Supreme Court – 02/12/2025 – Readers’ Committee

Support for the candidate
“Allies of Christ want to take pastors to Senate to push for STF approval” (Politics, 1/12). Nomination shall be made by the President. The Senate must analyze whether Mesías has merit to be an STF judge.

Manuel Marcelo Sanchez (Sao Paulo, SP)

Lula made a mistake in nominating Christ. He should have appointed a jurist with great knowledge, with the support of civil society. Leaving the bubble would benefit the president.

Maria Cristina de Almeida (Sao Paulo, SP)

If Alcombre manages to reject Messias, the loser is not Lula, but the balance between the three powers, which supports the democratic state. The right to nominate ministers rests with the president, and Messias has all the necessary credentials for approval. the BoundAnd, as always, on the wrong side.

Luciana Conte (Rio de Janeiro, Royal Jordanian)

Religion in the personal sphere. We are a very backward country: there are too many churches, and too little education.

Deborah Brandt (Kutia, SP)

STF
“Who will contain the Supreme?” (Joel Pinheiro da Fonseca, 1/12). Thanks to the STF, we got a vaccine against Covid, and for the first time, those who attacked democracy were tried and convicted. Two achievements that should be celebrated by everyone. Congress does not legislate for the Brazilian people.

Mariam Creepies (Nitroy, Royal Jordanian)

no one. Executive only.

Alexandre Barreto (Porto Alegre, RS)

If necessary, people will contain special forces. They stretch the rope and test when it will break. The Supreme Court does not have the approval of half the population. It has become a business counter, a bit like Planalto.

Adriana Flowers (Campinas, SP)

The Special Forces used available and necessary legal means to confront the coup attempt, while respecting due process and an extensive defence.

Eduardo Lusch (Sao Paulo, SP)

Empty in SP
“Teodoro Sampaio sees empty shops and creates fear among merchants and residents” (Cotidiano, 1/12). I live in the area and it gives me chills to live with the widespread ugliness and chaos. I support the verticality of removing the appearance of slums from linear roads, as long as there is serious and rigorous urban planning.

Rodrigo de Souza (Sao Paulo, SP)

Those who live in old or low-rise houses or buildings have to look higher and higher to see a little of the sky, and further and further to see a little of the green through the window. Feeling like you are buried in concrete.

Peter Morris Erna Claessens (Sao Paulo, SP)

I think it’s funny that they put Haddad’s mistakes at Nunes’ expense. There is no need for that, the Nunes government is rubbish, point out its mistakes.

Carlos Amorim (Sao Paulo, SP)

Blockade of Venezuela
Trump rejects Maduro’s requests and pushes for the dictator’s resignation after an ultimatum, the agency says.

Ricardo Ferreira (Sao Jose dos Campos, SP)

The United States fears dictatorships that have oil.

Luiz Alfredo Ferricin de Abreu (Goiania, GO)

Basic agenda
“And the excesses of feminism?” (Vera Yaconelli, 1/12). Positions and arguments well placed and represented, Vera. Congratulations on the service you provide to the community through your texts Bound.

Adeline J. Teixeira da Silva (Curitiba, PR)

The only point I disagree with in the feminist movement is the extinction of the principle of innocence for men. Merely being accused of harassment or violence, without investigation or trial, is enough to destroy the life of the accused.

Leandro Piva (Foz do Iguaçu, PR)

I grew up in a sexist society and survived. Fortunately, I realized the injustice done to women in time. This may have helped him to be educated by women. Once upon a time, I complained about the excesses of feminism, but I also survived. Today I prefer feminist transgressions to news of women being murdered. The killers awakened in me a primitive feeling of revenge, because the state does nothing.
