Argentine Asenso is going through a day of shock after the death on Tuesday of Santiago “El Pulga” Exequiel Fredes, coach of Lujan, who had been hospitalized since last Thursday at the Sanatorio Austral de Pilar, after suffering from discomfort after the friendly match against JJUrquiza.
According to Noticias Argentinas, the former footballer was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, an autoimmune condition that leads to muscle weakness and loss of sensitivity.
Although he remained in the hospital for several days, his condition did not improve and he eventually died.
“El Pulga leaves an indelible mark on us as a player, coach and coach,” Lujan said in a corporate statement.
There they also highlighted “achievement, passion and human quality”, values that characterized his time at the club.
Fredis had just finished an impressive run in 2025, as Loganero finished second in its region and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Reducer Championship.
With 14 wins in 19 matches, his team was one of the finds of the tournament. Since his hospitalization, the team has continued to work under the leadership of the rest of the coaching staff for the 2026 season.
The club had announced a few weeks ago the renewal of the coach via an influential video. Fredis promised to pursue a “new dream” and strive to make the leap into the category that Loganero had been seeking for years.
His connection to the club ran deep: He trained with the Phillies, made his professional debut in Logan in 2011 and returned several times throughout his career.
He passed through Flandria, Defensores Unidos and Excursionistas, until he returned permanently in 2018 to retire and wear the coach diver. Initially he was youth coordinator and then took charge of the Premier League in 2025.
One of the most memorable moments of his playing career was the decisive penalty kick he “kicked” in the final against San Miguel in 2013, an operation that saved Lujan from relegation to the first division and remains etched in the fans’ memories.
Amid the pain, the club stopped all activities at its headquarters.
