Federal Representative Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) commented, on Tuesday (2/12), on the relationship between the President of the United States, Donald Trump, and President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT). In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the parliamentarian said he received the news “with optimism” and defended that the bilateral dialogue was guided by “clear principles.”
Sanctions are never an end in themselves; “They are legitimate tools to correct serious abuses when other avenues are blocked (…) Any real progress in bilateral relations requires confronting, honestly, the current institutional crisis in Brazil, and reaffirming freedom as a fundamental foundation among democratic nations,” he wrote.

Lula and Trump spoke for about 40 minutes on Tuesday. According to information from Palacio do Planalto, the Brazilian President described the recent decision taken by the North American government to cancel the 40% tariffs on part of Brazil’s exports, such as meat, coffee and fruits, as “very positive”. Other rates will be discussed between the two countries, especially in the industrial sector, as indicated by Vice President Geraldo Alckmin (PSB).
The Republican also spoke about the call and said it was a “very good conversation” and that he “loves him (Lula).” The Republican took office this year and sought to strengthen trade relations with strategic countries.

“We had a very good conversation. I like him, very good. We’ve had some good meetings, you know, but today we had a very good conversation,” he said.
In addition to definitions, the call addressed expanding cooperation in combating organized crime.
