CLDF approves a project to allow stations to install electric charging devices

On Tuesday (2/12), the Legislative Council of the Federal District (CLDF) approved Bill No. 1,543 allowing gas stations to provide charging points for electric and hybrid vehicles, on a fee basis.

According to the text, written by Rep. Hermeto (MDB), “the measure represents an important advance in promoting sustainable mobility in the DF, by allowing the expansion of charging infrastructure for low- or zero-emission vehicles to more accessible locations and their widespread distribution.”

The proposal includes two types of cars: fully electric cars – that operate exclusively on energy from an external source, and hybrid ones – that combine a combustion engine and electric propulsion.

According to the wording, the determination of technical standards for the equipment will be the responsibility of the Federal District Government, which will establish safety, standardization and operational standards for charging stations.

Hermeto stressed that the initiative follows an international movement aimed at reducing emissions and encouraging clean transportation.

According to the parliamentarian, the lack of charging points remains an obstacle for those who want to choose less polluting vehicles. He added, “Gas stations spread across the entire national territory and that are easily accessible are considered strategic locations to provide this service.”

After approval by regional deputies, the project now goes to Governor Ibanes Rocha (MDB) for approval.
