“Societies collapse due to decreased emotions.”

Writer and businessman Fabian C. Barrio He just released his new book, “Gears of the West”. After the success of the basic and very entertaining “You Are Here”, Barrio continues his media work on his YouTube channel. Tireless traveler (He is famous for his trip around the world on a motorcycle). He allocates time in his schedule for us to talk about sins…

And forgive him a great sin.

-Sins are part of our identity, and in that sense, I don’t think any of them should be justified.

Tell me that.

-They are there, and they are intertwined in our person. We should embrace them as something dear to us. We never need to be forgiven for what we have done.

Drop forgiveness?

– No, I just think that what we need to forgive is the way we treat each other when we think we have sinned. When religions appeared, they covered everything with morality, but in reality it is a psychological issue. A little self-indulgence, without falling into stupidity or complacency, would be welcome for a walk without too much internal noise.

Ultimately, they are still our great passions…

– I treated the love of fate with a special emotion, which is the love of our fate, and we learned to love even the bad things that happen to us. I believe we should also love our sin as part of who we are.

“Maybe Asia’s sin now is lust, because it ended the mourning stages you have to go through when you grow up.”

In your book you address the collapse The West: Do societies also have sins?

—Societies, corporations, families… Every human group responds to human affairs and has internalized human behaviors that have a lot to do with sin. Societies end up collapsing because of lust, anger, greed, and envy… because of base desires.

So our societies also have their greatest sins…

– Sins and behaviors. This is something I have noticed on many occasions. Take companies for example: they go through crises very similar to those experienced by families, which in turn go through crises very similar to personal crises. Middle age arrives and they think they have to reinvent themselves, for example. Just as some of us buy a powerful motorcycle or change partners, companies tend to make risky decisions. So do communities.

What would be the West’s greatest sin?

-It is very possible to be gluttony. Keep in mind that we are on the verge of collapse and our main problems are obesity and depression. They both come from the same germ, which is abundance.

Notice I was going to blame pride and greed.

– In fact, all these sins are closely related to each other.

What will be the one in the east?

-Definitely not lazy, because you only have to visit any Asian city to realize that it is a center of hectic activity. Perhaps there will be a touch of envy. Especially in emerging countries. India is a clear example of this, because there is a kind of civil war going on over resources. Maybe Asia’s sin now is lust, because she’s finished the mourning stages you have to go through when you grow up, and now she’s overflowing with a kind of crazy lust that I don’t really know how it’ll end, but maybe it’ll be pride.

It is as if every sin opens another door.

-It is very possible that this is the case.
