Vasco bid farewell to São Januario in the Brazilian League with another defeat at home. Cruz Maltino lost on Tuesday evening (02) to Mirasol in its last match with the host team in the tournament.

Despite another negative result against Colina, coach Fernando Diniz expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance. The coach analyzed that Vasco succeeded in outperforming the opponent in statistics, but he was unable to create opportunities to be effective in attack.

“Obviously losing again in Sao Januario creates an atmosphere we don’t like, especially after the win we had against Inter. We didn’t play a bad match, on the contrary. It was a very good match, against a very good opponent. If you look at Mirasol’s statistics, the statistics almost always favor them in everything. Today we had the statistics and we didn’t know how to convert them into goals. They had two chances and they scored. We didn’t create many clear chances, but they were always on the verge of creating chances, and they were always invading the final third.” Lamirasol. The team played well, but it was not enough to win.”

From Diniz’s point of view, it was Mirasol’s first goal that decided the match. The coach pointed out some positional errors committed by the team in the match in which Liao Kaibera opened the scoring.

“The first goal decided the outcome of the game. It was a move in which we should have been more protected than we were. We played open, Paulo Henrique was open, and he didn’t need to. So, if we had a line like we were supposed to, we could have cut the cross off. It was the conditions of the game, and we could have made the mistake. Now that it’s all over, it’s easier.”

Can you trust Vasco?

With the Brazilian Cup semi-finals approaching, the coach pointed out the reasons for the fans’ confidence in Vasco. The coach admitted that the team was wavering, but it continued to develop and gave good performances in recent matches.

He pointed out: “We fluctuated, but the team improved. It is not the same team. We went through great moments during this period. We went through our lowest moments, with five defeats, and in a very decisive moment, we achieved a very resounding victory over Inter. Today we played well again. When the team plays well, it is easier to make corrections.”
