One of the most violent criminals in Chihuahua has been arrested

On Tuesday, in the municipality of Aldama, about 30 kilometers north of Chihuahua, Mexican authorities arrested Roberto N., nicknamed 02He is one of the most violent criminals in the Northern Territory against whom an extradition order was issued to the United States, according to a statement issued by the Security Council of Ministers. The army also arrested 10 other people from a criminal cell in the operation. Movement 02 carried out its attacks in the territories of Aldama, Cuyami del Sotol, and Manuel Benavides, three areas close to the border with the United States.

The army began the operation by land in the town of El Pueblito when an exchange of fire began. The statement added that the forces were able to repel the aggression and control the situation. After the attack, authorities seized 11 long weapons, two machine guns and two Barrett rifles, which are long-range weapons designed for military use. They also seized other explosive devices, three vehicles and a drone. It is a process derived from the coordination of several federal institutions.

The cell to which the eleven men belong is witnessing a full confrontation with other criminal groups in the Ojinaga border region, about 200 kilometers from the place of arrest. Authorities say Roberto N. is the “possibly responsible person” for these confrontations. “This goal has been identified as a priority goal by the Government of Mexico,” the letter highlights. The 11 detainees have already been placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecution to determine their legal status.

The arrest of 02 comes at a time when Mexico has put the problem of insecurity at the center of the table. The shooting death of former Uruapan mayor Carlos Manzo at the beginning of November revealed the underlying wound left by organized crime in Michoacán. But the echo of discontent spread throughout the country. Mexico’s government was proud of a 25% drop in homicides from September last year to August, from 87 daily victims to 65. This was the first report from Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, and the data showed the effectiveness of its strategy against insecurity. But the killing of Manzo completely awakened him, cut off from that apparent calm.

Chihuahua has not been spared from the violence that permeates the border areas with the United States. The long line that separates Mexico from its northern neighbor is always an area of contention between organized crime groups, which see the United States – with a population of about 340 million people – as a large market for the distribution of their illicit businesses, such as selling drugs.
