New layoffs plague the video game industrythis time we have to repent of them in Eidos Montreal and it looks like 2025 is not going to end well.
The studio, known for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and for supporting the development of several Tomb Raider games, has reduced its staff and seen projects for PC, PS5, Xbox and perhaps even Nintendo Switch 2 affected.
Last week, some former employees commented on LinkedIn that they were no longer with the company; in one way and another.

“Hello!” wrote game director Samuel Daher. “I was working at Eidos, I loved it and I wanted to stay, but these are difficult times“.
In total, at least a dozen or more people are now looking for work. It is the second time they have cut staff, as there were 75 layoffs in March.
At that time it was said that the dismissals were made because of “end of mandates“, but now we don’t know the reasons; although they are probably the same as always.
This isn’t the only bad news, multiple sources confirmed to Insider Gaming that most projects at Eidos Montreal were canceled.
The study is currently focused, they say, on work with Microsoft and its consoles for games like Grounded 2 and Fable.
The aforementioned medium comments that there are also another internal project that began its development in 2019 and which, according to the same sources, has no way of recovering its current costs.
The future of Eidos Montreal, more uncertain than ever
Once both projects are released, everything looks even darker because “further staff reductions are already planned“.
IG attempted to contact them and the Embracer Group, although the latter almost always denied having stated anything related to layoffs and project status.
Of course the future of Eidos Montreal was doomedbecause we don’t know what would have happened if he had stayed with Square Enix.
